Of all those guns they talk about I always wonder how many are sitting on the dealers shelves. I traveled quite a bit on a previous job and often visited all the local gun shops and I swear I've seen at least 300 million sitting on dealers racks in that time. Do those also count as guns in Americans hands as well? As far as ammo goes, do bricks of 22lr count as one round or five hundred? (Our government doesn't lie but we have lots of liars in government)

I have to agree with commygun. If you only bought one 50 round box of ammo for each gun, that would be about 20 Billion rounds.

Funny bit of information. I read awhile back that somewhere in the vicinity of 80-85% of handguns purchased have less than 1 box of ammunition through them. Buy the gun and a box of ammo.
Maybe shoot 20 or so rounds at the range and set it in the drawer.

Illegally purchased, I'd buy that. But not purchased legally. Only 15 percent have 1 50 rd box? No doubt Most don't get shot a lot but I'd say more than 50. Most people shoot a few hundred before the new wears off and they move on. Ive been wrong before though.
Having said that, id bet than only a couple percent (or less) of guns sold since ww2 have been actually worn out.

IME, when purchasing a gun, myself, or watching a gun purchase, a 50 round box of ammo is either purchased, or thrown in free. Yes, there are exceptions,
bearing in mind that many folks, like myself, purchase ammo in bulk, by the 1000 round case, and don't buy that 50 round box with the gun, at time of purchase, because they are going to get, or already have, 20X as much, or more.

IMO, there is something seriously wrong with the original math, here. Maybe a decimal point, 200 rounds per gun I would consider believable. 80 Billion rounds, maybe. I'd guess it's over a trillion.
