Home, Corvette Destroyed In Ammo-Filled House Fire

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A fire destroyed an Orange County house along with a Corvette that the homeowner had just bought. There was also a hidden danger inside the house on Arundel Drive near Hiawassee Road.

Firefighters had to exercise extra caution Thursday morning. When they arrived, they found out the homeowner had a safe filled with ammunition.

...
Instead, the loud popping noise was coming from inside her neighbor's house, which was destroyed by a huge fire.

"The resident was able to advise us that he did have ammunition all over the house, mainly riffle ammunition and approximately 40 pounds of black powder," said Battalion Chief Tom Hickman, Orange County Fire Rescue.

Thomas Gourley has lived in the house since the mid-70s. He's a competitive shooter, which explains why he had the weapons and gun powder.

...

Just about everything inside burned to the ground, including more than 1,000 trophies and ribbons won at shooting competitions and his latest prized possession, a 1992 Corvette he bought last week.

...

The back of the can containing paint thinner has directions in bold red ink that read, "Use only with adequate ventilation. Keep away from heat." Both are things the homeowner apparently failed to do.

That sentence should be changed to:

Thomas Gourley has lived in the house since the mid-70s. He's an American Citizen, and his Second Amendment Rights explain why he had the weapons and gun powder.
