Speer 135 gr .357 short barrel
Works wonders out of my 2.25 SP101.....as easy to control as .38 Speer plus P
That's because there's only about 100 fps difference between the 135gr .38 Special +P and .357 Magnum short barrel round and the .357 Magnum is listed @ under 1000 fps.

Your brand is an individual choice based on what is most accurate for you and your revolver. But I will say that Ruger developed the SP101 around the 158 grain load and whatever brand you buy, be sure to stay with 158 grain loads. My Sp101 was shooting 3" low on 125 grain loads and nothing I did improved it until I moved up to the heavier bullet. Then I was on level with the bullseye and could start working on my accuracy.

I aggree about the 158gr, I can hit much closer to POA with just some cheap Monarch (Academy brand) 158 gr hollowpoints than I could with any of the 125 gr ammon that I tried, which also shot low.

I have the same question but for an sp101 in .327 Fed Mag...

I really like my new Ruger SP101 in .327 Fed Mag and I am impressed with power of the .327 Fed Mag load although I will need a softer grip. It is a nicely built gun.

My question revolves around my desire to be able to shoot something lighter and cheaper some of the time. Is there a .32 spl or a .32 +p round comparable to what is available for the .357 mag/ 38 +p / 38 special/. Any ideas?

I'm sure you want a magnum round but I really like Speer's 135grain +p .38 special. I have just come to the personal conclusion that .357 is overkill (for me) and that I'm better off shooting all 5 rounds with superior accuracy than messing around with .357. Lastly, if this is going to be a house gun, perhaps you would be better off with a 4 or 6 inch GP-100.

well, Cabela's seems to be still backordered on the Speer 158 gr Gold Dot.
I think I'm going to punt and cancel the order, it's been over a month.
DoubleTap has a 158 gr round in the Gold Dot that looks like it would do the trick. Anybody have any experience with the Double Tap round?
