Ammo packaging from the good ole days.

Actually makes me a bit happy to see that I'm not the only sentimental guy here who waxes all nostalgic when sorting through the closet and admiring all my old ammo boxes (lots of old Winchester Super-X and Remington Core-Lokt especially, some of it probably dating back to the late '60s).

Same here but it also makes me realize I need to shoot more.

I would have to dig through my ammo cans to get a date, but I'm pretty sure these Norinco .223 had '86 head stamps, I could be wrong. In either case it's older and in real good shape. I had a box of .22 Hornet and some super obscure cartridge I can't think of. The boxes weren't in terrible shape until I got flooded out back in July, but I've since been told the box of .22Hornet and the 5 or 10 round magazine for .22Hornet I had along with the other box I had was very valuable. Not sure how valuable but I wished I'd kept those old things with my other stuff instead of being squirreled away in the basement to get totally destroyed.

I also have some really old Federal and Winchester .380 and .32ACP boxes that are in pretty mint condition. The old winchester Silvertip .32acp I have 2 boxes of are mint, I think about 30+ years old.

Some awesome boxes shown here, thanks all for sharing.

I got a few pics earlier, anyone know an approximate age on these boxes?

Anyone else enjoy the beauty of ammunition packaging from way back when? I know I do. Talk about triggering some nostalgia.
In the process of sorting through some older ammunition, and I must say these designs are simple, yet beautiful.

I have to say my favorite is the Federal HI-Power box of 16ga in the upper right corner. Black/Red/Gold w/ duck is very good looking to me. These also trigger memories, my first deer hunt I carried a box of 30-30 WIN. with the exact same livery as the Winchester Super-X box in the upper left corner.

Anyways, back to sorting.

Image taken off the net. I had a brick of Ted Williams .22s. Went through them, discarded boxes and the brick box. Wish I'd'a kept them and some of the ammo, too.

I've got some old ammo around, never considered the boxes artsy, What gets to me is the prices on the boxes.

Wow on the 225 grain thutty ought six ammo.. If you've ever wondered why the military went to 150 grain bullets, there's why. ;)

Yeah, yeah, I know..."Why, I've fired 550 grain ammo out of a 6 pound rifle with no problem."

Yeah, but you weren't one of the millions of city boys in the army who never fired any rifle at all.

Here are some close ups from post #39. The boxes are all full except a few of the top shelf up high ones. The three rounds , bottom right, in pic # 9638 are 8mm Nambu cartridges. The Kynoch boxes in the third pic are full. As you can see from the sticker on the .450 Nitro Express box, I got them for $25 each.!

What a cool thread! Fascinating to scroll through and even though I had ammo package pics here on the computer, I took some more of the ones I haven't photographed yet. Won't be able to get them all in one post so I'll do a few at a time. No. 1 is a 12 ga. shotshell box sold by the old "Western Auto" stores. "Revelation" was a house brand name used by them on lots of different products. No idea who actually made these for Western Auto, but once upon a time they sold guns & ammo. As a matter of fact, my dad got his first shotgun from a Western Auto store in the 1939- 1941 time frame. No idea how old these are: IMG_9586.JPG .. IMG_9587.JPG ..#2 Also got a pic of an old Winchester-Western box of 22 longs that is pretty ancient. IMG_9588.JPG . No.3. is an old box of .30-06 with 180 gr bullets, I always recall the name "Peters" being associated with Remington, as in "Remington - Peters" or just the old "R-P" headstamp, but this box has no mention of Remington, which leads me to think that this one is most likely REALLY old.. IMG_9585.JPG .. IMG_9584.JPG ..Will post more tomorrow if I get time.

Correction: In my previous post, ( no. 48), a Peters box for .30-06's was shown and I commented about no mention of Remington on the packaging. OOPS. I forgot to photograph the back of the box, so I just got done doing that and here it is, the only place on the box that mentions Remington.. IMG_9589.JPG , and as long as I'm on line, here's a couple shots of an old box for Remington 150 gr. 308's, ( 1950's - 60's? ). IMG_9582.JPG .. IMG_9583.JPG ..Along with an old, beat up, Peters box that once held 20 rounds of 8mm Mauser.. IMG_9577.JPG ..
