I recently acquired several boxes of the old paper shotgun shells, they are are all 16 ga. There's some Federal and some Remington, in a wide variety of shot sizes (including buckshot) I am just wondering if these are "worth anything" as a collectible or not.

I can't know the exact date but along with them I got some boxes that had the "New Plastic Shells" advertisement on the box so I can assume the paper shells were some of the last ones made, even though I have NO idea when that might have been.

So should I shoot'em up, save them for my kids, or are the actually worth enough to sell now?

OH, and if this is in the wrong place I apologise, I didn't see a forum specifically for ammo. Forgive me, I'm still new. :uhoh:

Hard to say what they are worth without knowing full details of the boxes, etc.

But, here are a couple of sites where you could do some looking.

I would guess however that they are not going to make you rich.

Shipping costs on ammo would quickly drive up the price if you tried to sell them on Gunbroker or something.
Plus the hassle of shipping hazardous materials.

There is some collector interest in paper shells. I suggest finding out if there is a local gun show and if so talking to a cartridge seller/collector. Whether you sell or not, you should be able to get an idea of value.

The shells I run across from the 50s and 60s seem to sell for about 50 cents each. I buy 28 ga. and shoot them.

Here's a box for $12 plus shipping

Notice the utterly boring graphics.

One of these older ones with a nice animal is priced at $50

In conclusion, it all depends.

Thanks a bunch you Guys. The info and links are helpful, I think you pretty much told me what I figured the case was. Not worth much. Oh well, maybe I'll keep a few and shoot a few.

Thanks again.
