Figured reloaders may be able to help. About how much
does an ammo can holding a thousand rounds of .45 ACP
ball weigh?

If I'm near a Walmart, I often pick up a box or
two of WWB ammo I use for training and add it to
an ammo can. I find the cans convenient and
more protective of the ammo.

But, I have not kept a count, especially since
the number of rounds used in a particular training
class varies.

I picked up one of my ammo cans and the box plus
the 230gr .45 ACP ball ammo weighed 40 pounds.

Does anyone have a known count and weight I can
use to estimate the number of rounds in that box?

Thanks.

A thousand 230 grain bullets weighs 32.8 pounds (230x1000 divided by 7000). A thousand .45 ACP cases weighs about 15 pounds.

A single box of military hardball weighs 2 pounds 4.7 ounces.

You're looking at about 50 pounds total including the ammo can.

We used to get .45 ACP shipped in a wooden crate with two ammo boxes inside when I was in the Navy. Total shipping weight was 100 pounds.

cdrt, sounds like, for a ballpark figure, 1000 rounds
weighs fifty pounds.

Thanks for that information.
