Does anyone have data on the percentage of ammo sold in the USA by caliber? I don't need to know raw numbers, but slices of the pie chart.

For instance, like 20% .223/556, 15% .308, 12% .30-06, etc (all made up). I'm more interested in rifle calibers, but handgun calibers is a good data point too.

Thanks.

Cost is sort of a measure of quantity, but since $10.00 buys 100 22lr rounds, cost is not an exact round count, but better than nothing.

I can say, what is on the ground at the range is 22lr, 9mm, and 223. I pick up more 40 S&W than 45 ACP. It is a blue moon if I pick up 38 Special, 357 Magnum. Back in the 1980's and 1990's, I used to pick up coffee cans of 38 Special. Then high cap Glocks took over and LEO stopped using revolvers. Nine millimeter is by orders of magnitude the most frequent empty I see at the range, followed by 22lr.

Those charts are 10+ years old. I suspect 9mm and 223 are still at the top, but I bet there are changes farther down the list. 40 S&W is probably out of the top 10 and 6.5CM is in. 45 ACP may still be in the top ten but I suspect it is lower on the list. Mostly because of price. In the last 10 years 45's have gotten very expensive. I also suspect 20 ga is giving 12 ga more competition.
