I decided to post this separately from my earlier post. I’m hoping to find someone familiar with the Automag and cycling issues.

I'm just back from the range after testing a used AMT Automag III in 30 Carbine. First I have to say I’m very happy with the accuracy and the mild recoil. The gun feeds well and never never encoutered any jams.

I took my first shot and when attempting to take a second the hammer did not drop. I manually cycled the slide and a live round was ejected. I took aim and the gun fired and the issue repeated. I then pulled on the hammer and found it was not fully back in the fire position the gun now fired. When manually applying a little pressure on the hammer it only rotated a little bit and clicked in the full cock position. I repeated this scenario several more times and the problem is consistent. Whenever I manually cycle the slide the gun functions without issue. With the gun unloaded I manually attempted to simulate a short cycling of the slide but was unable to duplicate a partial cock of the hammer condition.

The gun was received in very good condition with no signs of misuse. I broke down the gun cleaned and lubricated it before taking it to the range. The first thing that comes to mind is the Ammunition used but I don’t currently have any other ammo to substitute.

There are pictures and a exploded assembly diagram attached to the thread I posted earlier today.

Details: Federal (30CA) 30 Carbine 110 gr Softpoint RN spec. 1990 FPS /965 ft-Lbs Muzzle

I would appreciate it someone out there could shed some light on this issue!

Have a great day!

Brass-case surplus military and BVAC .30 Carbine available from Cheaper than Dirt; Natchez has Winchester and Magtech Carbine. Testing the gun with some of these would seem the first step in getting past what looks like short-stroking.

IMHO
