Does anyone have definitive schematics of the internals of the AN-94 Abakan rifle? I checked Popenker's site, and all he's got are the firing cycles, I want a look at how they downshift from 1800 rpm to 600 just using the selector.
Perhaps the sear is of the rotating kind, like the M16 burst limiter. The first two notches would be spaced closer together, letting the hammer fall twice in short succession then is trapped on a third position that lets it wait a little longer. The fire control selector would simply disengage the third notch.
Scroll about 2/3rds down the webpage to part 'A' of the 'Standard Operations' section titled 'Variable automatic fire'. You can read the article for the details, but the cliff notes are that the fire control group has a part called a trigger plate, which interacts with the sear and disconnector to down-shift the firing rate after the first two shots are fired.
