I seem to be on a campaign lately. I open up a constructive and polite dialogue with someone who seems to be against firearms and offer them new ideas and thoughts they may not have considered.
At a friends Christmas party I just skipped all that and went straight to it. (the shooting)
I brought my .308 down because they live on a nice farm and we shoot together, and I had these nifty Osama targets someone gave me for Christmas. My friends had high class visitors from Cali, including a woman who was very 'peace oriented'. Her husband, an Englishman with thick accent and fine taste in wine was directing the conversation when I asked my friend, "It's getting dark, would it be ok to go ahead. . . and. . . well, you know."
"Sure!" he said, so i quietly retrieved my gear and headed outside. Somehow the whole group ended up outside while I drove targets down about 200 yards for the son and I. He got out the telescope for spotting and I squeezed off a few. We marked the hits. My buddy went next. Then lo and behold, a friend on the porch said, "He wants a go at it." I was ecstatic. I knew if he just pulled the trigger he'd never be brainwashed by the socialist elite, completely anyway. Sure enough, three shots, three hits. A 6" group from 200 yards! I clapped his back and shook his hand. For the rest of the night he kept talking about how great it is in the country.
I agreed and was able to articulate just why the second amendment was put in the Bill of rights, and how important it is for the future of our country. He listened, and he heard it. His political views were very different from my own, but we reached common ground - the government should never bar arms for citizens! When he left I could hear an eloquent voice of reason in the high circles of erudite southern CA.
What a christmas present for the mountain man!
