Last weekend at Ft Pierce, there was a distinct difference in the air from a few months ago.
The tables were full of AR's and overpriced AK clones. I didn't see much in the way of buyers, more browsers. Many older folks who seem to be getting a new or second gun, and many people trading up.
Some very surprised buyers finding out that their gun was only worth under what they thought.
Very reasonable prices on shotguns, other than the keltec , which 2 guys were selling for 1,800.00. " I doubt many buyers will bite at that price".
The worse offenders were the guys selling ammo at a buck a round for range ammo "by the case", and half case. This is where the money was being made, they took the Wal-Mart ammo and actually doubled the price.
That's the story, "some ridiculous prices on optics", Personally I can't justify a light/laser combo for $350 with another 50 for the holster. It is the cost of a gun.
Unless your dept. is paying for it, the 40 dollar ones work pretty much the same, and I picked one up with 140 lumens for 39 dollars. For me having laser and a light is ok on a rifle, but too much for a pistol . The light is just fine.
One other thing I looked at the new Ruger 380 "larger model", than the LCP. I don't understand the market for this gun unless it was made for NY, as it only carries 7 rounds. That's only 1 more than the LCP, I didn't quite get that.

I think women are the perfect target for the new larger Ruger .380. Many smaller women, including my wife, find the tiny .380s very harsh to shoot and find the slide too hard to pull back. The larger .380 solves both of these problems, and will less harsh to shoot than a 9mm of the same size. If a gal carries in her purse, as many do, the larger size of the Ruger should not present a problem.

The most recent gun show in the local area reflects the same thing. Lots of lookers and very few buyers for AR style rifles. The worst case of pricing I saw was boxes of WalMart 22 ammo with 525 rounds selling for $88. The same vendor was selling .223 for $1 a round. Now, I can't say he had many takers, but he was in fact selling some. Hand gun sales seemed to be doing OK, but no real bargains to be had.

I am looking forward to the looming glut.

I already have my Craigslist / Backpage ad ready...

"RECLAIM YOUR LIVING SPACE NOW: Reasonable fees for the safe removal and discharge of hoarded ammunition".

My hoarde ain't goin' nowhere. :D

I'm not buying at these stupid prices but I will continue to jump on any deals I come across. It doesn't eat anything and it doesn't go bad.

If any of these "public safety" taxes go through those guys paying $50/500 for .22 will be looking pretty shrewd, though.
