I just got these knives from a friend. They were her father and he just passed away. I think the one on the left is a genuine Case. It has the script "C" in the word case, as well as the "XX" mark on the blade near the hilt. On the reverse, the word SCOUT in on the blade near the hilt. The sheath has an antlered deer and the words Cases Sportsman stamped in it.
The one on the right is the imposter. The word CASE is on the blade in all caps, no script "C" and no "XX". Obviously the handle is cheap--it is broken and has scotch tape around it.
Does anyone know anything about the knife on the left? Is is an actual Case? Any guess as to age or value?
Thanks for any info.
As an aside, the gentleman that owned these was a two war Marine vet. He won a Distinguished Flying Cross in WWII and was recalled for Korea. He switched to the infantry and won a Silver Star as a platoon leader. What an American hero!
