Analysis of selected armed civilians’ engagements against active killers

Mainstream media often mock the idea of armed civilians going up against active killers. Zbrojnice.com has an entire category of articles that are dedicated to describing engagements of individual armed civilians against wannabe mass murderers. This analysis summarizes the most important data that we can gain from these cases.

I was sorry to see the listing left out Vic Stacy from Texas who saved a cop who was pinned down by a guy that had just murdered 2 people and Mark Wilson who was instrumental in Tyler, and Byron Wilson who was shot through both legs in Houston trying to stop an active shooter.

John Wilson

The name is Byron Wilson, the grey line under Joseph Robert Wilcox. Police identified him wrongly in the innitial reports that were taken over by papers.

Vic Stacy

Mark Wilson

Thank you. I will read more details on those and add them into the list. It seems that those were targeted killings that then turned into police shootout, so they should fall into the cop saving category, not active killer category?

Finally, the topic which I've never seen analyzed and condensed into objective info.

Thanks very much. And apparently the info was collected by Czech or Slovak citizens (?). I immed. recognized the language, having been there twenty years ago.

Many active shooter and mass shootings involve target individuals. They were, as per the article, ACTIVE KILLERS. What would it matter if police got involved? Citizens were involved and contributed significantly. In fact, the author has a specific section called Armed Civilian Engagements Saving Police Officer's Lives. In both the Vic Stacy incident and Mark Wilson incident, the shooter was involved in killing civilians when officers intervened and then officers got into trouble.

Gang violence and targeted interpersonal violence have different social and criminological context compared to violence aimed at general public with intent to cause highest possible death count. That is why FBI doesn't include interpersonal murders that end up in police stand-off into active killer cases (man kills exwife and children and barricades self waiting for police response), unless it is interpersonal violence which then changes into violence aimed at general public (man kills exwife and children and then goes on rampage in the streets).
