And all metal gun for a plastic lover

1) Browning Hi-Power
2) CZ75
3) SIG P229

All of these double stack 9mm.s should give you a very good ergonomic fit to your hand and the grip frame, have decent triggers, and do not have grip safeties.

I wouldn't rush into a 1911 right now, because they will continue to be made, while some of these other models are either gone or might disappear (Beretta seems to have lost the US contract, and Sig and CZ are starting to make polymer frames now).

That is an excellent point. Maybe I'll begin my look for a HiPower...hm. Thanks everyone!

So now, one of the original "I don't wants" was a traditional safety. The Browning / FN Hi-Power is like a 1911 in that it is single action, with a thumb safety. Good pistol, but doesn't fit your restrictive requirements of no traditional safety.

Well, the main thing was something that pointed the same, followed by no grip safeties (except 1911s, they're bearable), and then last that I preferred so called passive safeties. It seems that within the guns suggested so far that appear to meet the grip requirement, CZs, 1911s, and HiPowers, none of them have a passive safety option. Sorry, Sigs just don't fit my handle well any time I've tried or shot them. So I was conceding passive safety, still avoiding the grip safety, which leave me HiPowers and CZs, of which the HiPower appears more attractive to me.

I'm another vote for the CZ or SIG. I love both. My CZ 75B has over 10K rounds through it and it has been monotonously reliable and accurate.

I get wanting to have as close to the same manual of arms as possible. While I love my CZ and my 1911 at the range, for defense I'm willing to use revolvers, decocked DA/SA autos (no safety engaged), and DAO only.

If you want a DA first trigger pull with no safety to worry about, there are a few CZs you can look at. The SDP, P01, PCR, and 75BD are all 9mms with decockers so you won't have to worry about disengaging a safety. If you are willing to go compact the RAMI is available with a decocker (the BD version) and if you are willing to go with .40S&W the P06 is the .40 version of the P01.

I love CZs.

But if you're looking for a "same trigger pull every time", I handled a Beretta Cougar DAO that had a very smooth trigger. Felt great in the hand. I think Stoeger still makes them.

Metal for Plastic Lover

The fulfillment of the above is downright difficult, if not impossible.

The 1911 is high on my list. Like shaking hands with a good old friend.

CZ-75 is next.

Posting # 25 has a nice list I like, except I'm prejudiced against the 92.
Like unto this:
1. It should have never replaced the 1911, which was a far superior gun.
2. Wasn't manufactured in the US.
3. Other guns in the testing were also better.

Glad the military is engaged in 2nd thoughts about using it.
