And then my collection will be complete...

At first I said, "I don't collect guns." But then... when I was honest with myself, I guess I kindof do collect guns. Initially, I will buy one because I want to understand the mechanism. Then I shoot it. If I like it, I keep it until my curiosity about different mechanisms prompts me to sell that one. And so on. I have only the one safe, so there is a limit on the total number of guns I can have at any one time.

Is this collecting?

... i`ve bought

... three boats, since that terrible boating accident....

At over 200 as-issued military Mausers, I'm just getting started with Mausers.

Then there is the US Martial Group: Garands, and Springfields, 1917 Enfields, Krags, and M-1 Carbines. 1911 and 1911A1's, And shotguns too.

And the 1940-1960 era semi-auto non-US military rifles.... German, French, Russian, Belgian, Czech, and more. Waiting for my FG-42 to arrive now.

And the bolt action Non-US military 1940-1955 era sniper rifles.... English, German, Russian, Egyptian, Belgian, French, and more.

And then the High Standard .22 semi auto pistols.

And the cap and ball pistols...

And the British double-rifles....

<sigh>...

I saw this most interesting little Sig 9mm today but I was tough and didn't buy it........today. Was pretty cool though.

I'm thinking my collection will never be complete, but I don't really know that for sure since I'm only ever focused on the next gun. Currently the next gun will be a Marlin 1895 45/70 - or a Ruger No. 1 45/70, but probably a pre-safety Marlin.

My previous next gun was a CZ 452 22LR. That was such a great next gun that I made it the next gun twice. One was a Lux with a 24"+ barrel and the other was an American with a 16" barrel.

It's a great hobby!

400 mosins later and I can start on mausers. Wouldn't it be neat to have an enfield from every year?

OK. Here we go.

1. Each caliber of Weatherby Magnums in Mark5' twice, one for colection and one for shooting.
2. Every Ruger #1 in every caliber ever produced. All but two should be collectors
3. Every Gallery gun ever made. All matching
4. About a dozen Winchester 70's. Post 64 is fine for some
5. About a dozen Winchester levers, 11 of them pre 64. THe other being a 7-30. That would be the only shooter.
6. Every 22lr rifle ever made in the US.
7. A marlin 336 in 30-30
8. A ruger 77/22 in 22 hornet.
9. Every military rifle designed before 1945 in original condition. None should be shooters.
10. An Authentic Khyber pass enfield.

That is my starting point. I have a ways to go.

I may be one of the few who can see a finite end to his "collection." I've always had modest aspirations, and the current state of my rifle collection shows it: 8 rifles in hand, plus one more on order. I can see maybe one or two more after that, but that should be it.

One reason for this is that I have no plans to acquire anything that would involve a new caliber. As it is, I own rifles in .22 LR, 9mm, .357 mag, .223, .308, 7.62x39 and 7.62x54. I have far more invested in the ammo than I do in the rifles. I shoot regularly, and most of the few rifles I have are used regularly.

About the only reason for acquiring anything new (or used, though new to me) would be to complement what I already have in some way. For example, for a long time, the lone rifle in .308 was an Ishapore Enfield. A few months ago, I added a GSR, and with optics it is currently my favorite shooter. But I wanted a .308 semi-auto to complement the bolt actions, and that is what is on order: a CMP Garand in .308.

So after that, what else? Well, my .223 and .22 LR are both semi-automatic, so I might keep my eyes open for bolt actions to go along with them. But after that, I'm probably done.

Unless I decide I need another .308 semi-automatic, like a M1A1 Scout Squad or a VIPR. But really, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I just know there is.

baz... there's never a light at the end of the tunnel.

I thought I was done buying guns and then decided to sell off stocks last year and pick up a bunch of belt feds, and C&R rifles. :)

Then, for months, I was "done"...

... and then I started reading up on the SAKO rifles....

.. So now I have my sights set on a TRG42 in 338 Lapua...

I'm trying to pick out rifles to sell to start the funding process.. but can't seem to decide what I'm willing to part with..

I think what he means in your eyes.....for me it will be a Johnson and a G41. I will not be done, but my (MY) WWII collection will be done (for me) after those two.

C'mon, you still have belt feds and pistols after that!

For me, there are the needed firearms, the wanted firearms and the would-be-nice firearms (if I were rich).

I don't think my collection will be complete even in the next 5 years. I would love to own high-end rifles in big bore calibers such as:

- Barrett M82A1 or M107 (50BMG)
- HK 416
- M1 Garand
- Springfield M1A
- Noveske AR15
- SCAR17

And that is the shortened version...

What amazes me is the desire for guns that I once HATED with a passion. Had to be stainless, now I hate stainless. Had to be a bolt gun, now I have 4 lever guns and use them more than anything else. Would never own anything other than a steel-frame, now I carry a 226. Would never own a plastic anything, but my 2022 is my summer carry choice. Would never buy a snub, but my 340PD is always in my pocket.

Reckon what I'm going to hate tomorrow....

I don't really think you can ask other people for answers that only you have because only you know how many guns you think is enough. Personally If it's something you really like and have the money why ever stop?

Although I wouldn't call any collection complete without some NFA like a suppressor or two and a machine gun, and if you only like old west guns then you need a Gatling gun ;D
and of course multiple .22's

guns guns ammo ammo ammo ammo ammo ammo ammo guns guns guns ammo ammo guns guns guns guns ammo ammo ammo

The one who dies with the most guns wins!

While I think Charleton Heston currently has the lead,, I am not giving up hope for my collection.

Was in a WWII museum today in Bayeux, France. They had a single gun 40mm Bodors anti-aircraft gun that would fit nicely in my collection. One can only dream!

I am happy with what I have on hand. Sure I could get certain contrasting platforms, but what I have is more than enough to get the job done. YMMV!
