Police: Boy Pointed Gun At Girl At Anderson School
Police: Boy Said "I Should Shoot You"
ANDERSON -- A report of a gun at an Anderson school led to a lockdown and police search Friday morning.
District 5 Superintendent Betty Bagley said early Friday morning, before first period, while Southwood Midlle School students were still in the cafeteria for breakfast, school administratiors found out a seventh-grader had a gun at school.
Bagley said several students approached teachers, telling them the 12-year-old boy showed them the gun, put it to the stomach of a girl and said, "I should shoot you."
School officials notified Anderson police and Southwood was locked down, not allowing anyone in or out of the school.
Bagley said the lockdown lasted for about two hours because police could not locate the gun and the child who allegedly brought the gun wouldn't tell police where he hid the weapon.
According to Bagley, the gun was loaded when police found the weapon in the assistant principal's office, but students were never in any danger.
The boy is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon by a person under 21. He is in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Additional officers were stationed at the school through lunchtime.
A dance that was scheduled for Friday night at the school has been canceled.
