Can anyone recommend an ankle holster for a J Frame? I know an ankle holster has a lot of drawbacks but I want to round out my holster selection. I already have in-the-pocket, IWB, and Smartcarry but I find myself not carrying because those are all uncomfortable after a while, especially while sitting down.

I have been using the Fobus for a few years and I like it alot. It's the usual mode anymore for me.

I have used a Kramer ankle holster with a fair amount of success. Be sure to use an alloy-framed revolver as the steel-framed revolver has too much inertial for comfortable ankle carry. I must admit that I no longer ankle carry unless I need a third pistol as I much prefer J-frame pocket carry.

I have no desire to carry this way, so I cannot testify from personal experience, but if I were to use this method, I'd buy an Alessi rig. You can go search E-bay, or place an order direct and wait for a few months. Or . . . you can buy something else and hope you didn't waste money on an uncomfortable rig that swings to and fro. With an ankle holster, that's all you've got to secure it. Its not like a belt holster secured by a belt, and possibly also trousers if you prefer to shove your holsters in your pants. With an ankle, its the quality of the rig itself and nothing else.

The momentum your leg makes swinging as you walk and sprint around will let you know pretty quickly if you made a good buy. Like I said, I'd spend the $$$ to buy Alessi and nothing else simply due to the reputation these have earned him.

I have Galco ankle gloves for both my Glock 26 and my Taurus 85.
I like them. They ride high and are comforable and light weight.

Alessi makes very good holsters, too, not as light, ride a little lower.

I had an Alessi and sold it, the guy I sold it to was very happy with it.
I suspect it just didn't fit my skinny legs well.

I like the Ross Leather product They make an ankle-holster that is comfortable to wear and one that is especially designed to secure a hammerless "J" frame revolver.

I know I sound like a broken record but I would find another method of carry if this is your primary weapon. It is absolutly the hardest spot to access quickly. Just my 2 cents

He already said he has many other options of carrying. Myself, I find an ankle holster is good for times I have to to have a tucked in dress shirt and nice fitting slacks. I also use a Colt DS on my ankle as a BUG to my P32 in my pocket.

I think you'll like the Alessi's, they sure aren';t cheap but they can make the gun disapear.

Ankle Holster for J-frame.........

As a police officer I routinely carry my airwieght J-frame 24/7.

I've tried every ankle holster on the market, barring none.

I've settle on, and rountinely recommend, the Eagle Industries
(www.eagleindustries.com) "UAH" Upside Down Ankle Holster. Before you all start hooting and hollering about having the barrel pointing up at the
jewels, believe me, if you have a newer S&W you have nothing to fear. I jog with mine on.

I've been wearing one of the UAH's for over 5 years and bought 5 more to
keep readily available. Problem is with any ankle holster is that you have
to wear it everyday and make it part of your routine.......everyday.

A couple of the local Narcotics team members didn't believe me until I
loaned one out for a T&E............I found a note in my box with a personal
check for $30.

Better buy now what you'll be using and wearing eventually. You'll see!
