This is what Ijust received from Nosler.

POP: To answer some of the questions, firstly it's not an all copper bullet like some of the competition's lead free bullets so it doesn't share the characteristics, like snapping the petals at a high velocity. That also means it doesn't foul like an all copper bullet, the accuracy is amazing. I saw the results just two days ago, I'll post when I can.

I'm just waiting for a call back on the price so I can give you a ballpark figure.

I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE:

POP:

Just got some more info for you.

Pricing: It will be slightly more than Partition. (that's a lot less than MRX)

Availability: Ammunition through Winchester will be first and it will be available prior to hunting season. Bullets will be available fourth quarter of this year.

That's all I got right at this second. I'll be changing the website off and on all day.

Won't be long now

The march toward banning lead in rifle and handgun ammo just took another step! I'm surprised that nosler is going along with it.

So you think I'm crazy? Several attempts have been made in europe to ban lead in any type of firearm. It failed, but by slim margins. Enviromentalists here in the U.S. have been hollering about some buzzards(condor), getting lead poisening from eating deer or gut piles containing lead bullets.

We lost the lethality of lead in shotgun loads for waterfowl, now they're bitching about it's use in upland game.

Thanks nosler, you just lost me as a customer. I'll be damned if I'll suport the lead grabbers with my bullet money!:cuss:

i'd like lead-free bullets. i'm not going to freak out about them one way or another. but i'll probably try a box of these.

I am not feaking out yet, but snuffy has a point. They will continue to try to ban lead and it will only mean more money to shoot, as if lead and copper prices aren't killing us now. :)

These type bullets are good for max penetration, but I just don't see the advantage for most game. The good old Nosler Partition and the Remington Core-Locked bullets will work every time. My 2 cents.

The california condor isn't dying because of lead. It's dying because it is an obsolete bird...:fire:

I haven't got an opinion on this subject yet as there is a place for this solid bullet right alongside lead/copper bullets. I'll wait...:scrutiny:

Lead free ammo is great so long as it's an option, not a requirement.

What does the E-Tip offer that the other bullets don't? What do they have over Partitions, Gamekings, Pro-Hunters, Ballistic Tips, or Core-Lokts? What animal is going to know the difference? Is it's only "advantage" being lead free?

I'd guess loaded rounds with E-Tips will be about $40-45/20 in 30-06. When the bullets become available, how's $30-35/50 sound? Just speculating.

Am I the only one sitting here trying to figure out how he's going to push that 180gr bullet to 3200fps out of his old trusty and reliable .30-06... just to get the expansion advertised in all the ads?

Barkin-boomin-magnums are in style, yes, but my .30-06 has been quite successful and more affordable to shoot.

Lead is more affordable and malleable than copper, probably always will be. I'll stick with lead, thank you.

because the mil has to start using lead free ammo lead gets in to the ground after shooting and could leak in to the water and things like that i dont want to be ingesting led thats what help kill alot of the romans they had running water came from led pipes

Doesn't lead come from the earth?
Yes, as does Arsenic, Mercury, Uranium, oil, Asbestos, and many other naturally occurring elements/properties. Problems sometimes become serious when these are concentrated, modified, or added to something and returned to the proximity of living organisms.

Wouldn't copper bullets need to be longer to have the same weights as lead ? I guess this gives a potential for better B.C.'s but what about rifles that have slower twist rates will they be limited to only lighter bullets ?

I'm ditto'ing PotatoJudge's responce. What we have already works great. I'm not totally against non-lead bullets but with the price of copper as it is, this will make for some slightly more expensive factory loads or bullets for reloading.

I understand the good points being made, but if you get an oppurtunity for the hunt of a lifetime, Premium Bullets and load development would be part of my Pre-Hunt preperation. I am a fan of NOSLER products and in reality, if a Partition won't do it, you're probably talking about dangerous game where solids might be required, anyway. But, NOSLER is following a precedent established by Barnes with the X-Bullet that's been around, what? 15 years?;)

I like it!

Hey Pop! KLN357 from the other place.

i'm liking the potential on moose from my 300 win mag:) so long as the price is more partition and less a-square i'll work up some loads with them.

Lead in the form of shot or spent bullts are not a problem. Lead form such sources doesn't leach into ground water as it quickly gets a outer layer of oxidation that prevents/(e.g. reeeaaaallllllyyyy ssssslllllooooowwwws down) any further breakdown. Look for/Search companies that recover/reclaim shot from trap and skeet fields and re-sell it to re-loaders. Normally all they do is seperate out the rocks, sticks and other organic matter, add some graphite to it (so it pours better), bag it up, and sell it.

Where lead causes problems is if you eat it, but it has to be in the right form.

For people (kids) the most common source is old lead paint. The problem is that the old lead paints peel and chip (and old lead paint chips do have a "sweet" taste), and kids would/will eat them like potato chips. Lead in this form can and will enter the blood stream and cause lead poisoning. Sanding off old lead based paints can also allow lead to enter the blood stream through inhaling the leaded paint dust. Wear a good mask whenever sanding an older home or other item that may have been painted with lead. You can eat a lead bullet or some lead shot and pretty much not suffer any ill effects, as it wil just pretty much pass through, but I wouldn't do it a lot.

For Critters, similiar situation. They have to consume the lead somehow. The how's and why's are open to debate/discussion. But it has to get into the blood stream to cause problems.

Asknight...Good point. I have no problem pushing a 180 grain lead/copper bullet to 2700 fps, but 3200 fps? I'm not sure even by Browning .30-06 can get that...As far as the lead contamination is concerned...Dont eat the dirt...:D

What does the E-Tip offer that the other bullets don't? What do they have over Partitions, Gamekings, Pro-Hunters, Ballistic Tips, or Core-Lokts?

besides price? dunno... nosler has always done a good job of keeping their prices higher than they should be.

I think this is an interesting bullet. I haven't started loading mono-metal bullets yet, but it will be nice to have some competition for Barnes. Their MRX is way more than I'm willing to pay and the the E-tip and TSX are pretty pricy. If Hornady or Speer get into the game prices could moderate a bit.

Lead shot ingested by fowl is different from lead ingested by mammals. Fowl have a gizzard they fill with rocks to help grind up seeds and other tough foods. This process would tend to make shot far more toxic to fowl than to a mammal.

Birds of prey also have a gizzard, but it's far less functional than on fowl. Even so, pellets appear to be a problem (see below). I would think that a bonded bullet would be just as good a lead free since they tend to fully penetrate, are easy to find and remove and would tend to be too big for birds to eat.

Notice how any "missing" bird is presumed to be a lead victim. The measured results are interesting, though.

Getting The lead out.

Seems to be a big trend today. The only part I have a problem with is the wild velocities you need to make any of the weight retaining rounds work right. 180 grainers at 3200 fps ? I don't like recoil that much. I'll stick with the Nosler Ballistic Tips. They have killed every thing that they were aimed at.
I like expansion. But not crazy about 3200 fps to get it.
I guess I see it as just another option. From the looks of it maybe a lead cored bullet will do better at long ranges when the speed falls off.

I agree about the recoil of a 3200 fps 180g bullet being a bit much, especially for deer and hogs.

In my opinion Nosler started out too heavy on the Accubond too. I'd think that their Etip would work best at 150 grains for 308 and 30-06 velocities.

On the note of competition, Barnes just put plastic tips on their TSX. It's supposed to substantially reduce the velocity needed to open them up and give them a better BC.
