I was thinking about the other thread here at dinner tonight and it prompted the following.
It started out as a friendly discussion with my long time friend and Anti-gun buddy and ended up with a confrontation between him, his wife and myself. The “for the sake of the children†theme kept repeating itself and I finally had a moment to regroup and hit them with the following…
“In the average household you’ll find gasoline in the garage, nail polish remover in the bathroom and a can of paint or two in the basement and were not even going to mention the Drano, propane tank, lighter fluid or the drawer full of Steak Knives in the kitchen. God forbid your 3 yr old chews on your turn of the century windowsill with lead paint on it and please do keep your child’s feet away from the lawn mower when running.
Lets not forget about what’s in your refrigerator, a child’s diet can’t be overlooked. This single issue will continue to cost us much more than any single malady. From childhood depression to adult health concerns and all the medical costs associated with them.
I’ll be the first to agree there are numerous objects in and around the house that will do serious harm to any child if left unattended or uneducated of their dangers. Please don’t assume that a firearm on the premises is any more or less of a hazardâ€.
Or words to that effect, anyway, I made my point I guess cause they both needed another drink and the discussion seemed to turn my way. I don’t know that they’ll ever own a firearm but at least they have a better understanding of gun ownership and the self imposed safety issues that comes with it. I do know that the media, from movies to anti-lies have given so many the wrong impressions of who we are and what we want.
Ah well, one person at a time I guess….
