I was looking for a thread on teardown/rebuild on an AR. Any links would be appreciated.

I did search, but came up empty handed.
TIA

not sure what you mean. like field-stripping for cleaning? or taking one apart to replace a particular part?

Thanks Taliv, yeah just a field strip. I don't know anything about 'em, and didn't want to miss or wreck anything in the process.... I know it is a very noobish question, but I recently inherited one, and am trying to learn as much as possible before I jump right in.

That was an impressive video.

The first time I took down an AR I was some what...nervous do to all the rumors I had heard regarding the AR-15. Turns out it was one of the easiest take downs I've done.

Yeah, I figured I wouldn't do much to it, but didn't want to lose any parts or render it useless based on my stupidity.

What makes a pre ban model more desirable than a post ban?

Pre-ban/post-ban doesn't mean much anymore since the 94-04 ban expired.

For a while, pre-1994 rifles were selling at a premium since they had all the "evil" parts making them "assault weapons." For AR15s, the biggest thing was removing the bayonet lug and flash suppressor (or barrel threads for a flash suppressor). Unless you live in a restrictive state, it is legal to have these again. You can retrofit a "post-ban" rifle if you want, but most people don't bother.

There are many who would argue that the ban helped the AR15 community since removing the flash suppressor placed more of a premium on accuracy rather than military.
