It sounds like (in the case in this article) the children were using a plain old BB gun type of thing, which wouldn't normally be lethal, there are some deadly airguns out there:

22cal, 1300 fps. That's as deadly as many firearms and is fully capable of killing an adult.

Anyway, on this story, it is certainly sad what happened, but that outcome is a natural consequence of the decision they made.

I would be all for a justified-use-of-force law caveat that if a perpetrator willingly has painted over or removed the orange tip of an airsoft/etc gun and uses it in an armed robbery, IT COUNTS as a lethal weapon!

How are you supposed to know the difference otherwise? Ask them to hand it over to inspect it?

How are you supposed to know the difference if it DOES have an orange tip?

If you are held up at "gun"point by some dude waving a black handgun with an orange tip, would you bet your life that it's an airsoft, rather than a real gun he painted orange? I wouldn't. You can buy orange paint in any Wal-Mart, and it goes on real guns just as easily as it goes on airsofts.

That orange tip thing has to be one of the most idiotic laws that has ever come out of the "it's for the children" mentality.

How are you supposed to know the difference if it has an orange tip? I dunno. How are you supposed to know the difference between a real cop at your door versus a guy in a good constume who is intending the ploy to gain access to your home to kill you and your family?

I was watching an episode of Cops over the weekend and two plain clothes officers were patrolling in a plain car and witnessed what they thought was a drug buy. The go after the buyer, hopping out of their car can saying "Police." to the guy while one was whipping out a badge on a chain. The suspect did not yield or comply. One of the officers said something like, "Didn't you hear us identify ourselves?" The guy had, but as he noted, they could have been anybody and since he wasn't doing anything wrong, there would be no reason for the police to come after him. Part of his statement was definitely true. They could have been anybody. Who would know?

NJ will be satisfied when all that is left is brains of residents, just brains sitting in a glass jar on a shelf. Hands, feet, legs and everything else will need to be banned to protect folks from themselves and others.

I think someone alread wrote that script in a Sci -Fi ...didn't pan out too well in that script either...
