Just finished this one up today for a Friend that teaches Bushcraft in France. The wife says it my best yet.
The blade is Brad Vice's Alabama Damascus with maple burl Handle.

I would love to own that piece; the mosaic pins very much add to the beauty of the damascus and the lovely scales. What type of wood is that?

Also interesting is the cord-wrapped piece in damascus viewable in the 1st and 3rd picture.

That's not a surface treatment. That is the steel. It is a layered pattern welded steel. The layers are due to the different etch resistance of the different steels after being etched to reveal the pattern. If you want a damascus slide for a handgun Caspian arms would be happy to oblige.

I have watched Damascus steel in the making at a knife factory in Jacksonville, Alabama, back in 1989. Very interesting. Hot, loud and lots of tons pounding the lowcarbon and highcarbon steels together. I think that was the type of steel used.
