Seems to be a rash of dogs shooting their owners this year, this is the 3rd or 4th incident that I've heard about in recent months. Link to story http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/accidents/article1205713.ece Seems they were driving down a rough road to their hunting area when the dog in the back of the truck with a loaded rifle got excited and hit it in a way that caused it to fire. It was a Browning 308 and the owner who was driving took a round to the thigh. I dont hunt anymore but when I did, I had stopped carrying loaded rifles in the vehicle. The reason was, back in 79 when I was young, a buddy of mine and I had gone on a hunting trip with his Dad. We had just gotten out of the vehicle when his son (my friend) went to remove the shotguns from the back, next thing we know is boom, he had just accidentally blown a huge hole in the rear and gas tank of the vehicle, where I had been sitting just a minute earlier. In those older trucks, the gas tank was behind the cab. Even though I was just 18 at the time, my buddy had taught me a valuable lesson in transporting loaded long guns.
