Another gun buying painc in progress?

With several panic situations, in relatively close succession, over the last few years, I would think that those that are prone to succumbing to the frenzy, are either well stocked or too broke.

I am not too worried about availablity of items this time around.

Well, fortunately, I believe we are getting new gun owners, new shooters, and new semi auto removable magazine fed owners, all the time. Also there are a fair number of people who just want 'more' or that come of age between panics.

Anytime there's a new bill proposed I almost kneejerk run out and buy three more 20 round AR mags. At some point I'm going to run out of places to bury them. :)

Handguns should be selling quite well, partly because even if somewhat practical, it frightens too many people to carry a Saiga or AR .223 rifle, and it's probably illegal (even down south) to carry a loaded rifle in our cars.

After the demonstrations in many US cities, connected with the mass murder of police in Dallas, anything is possible in urban---maybe also in suburban settings?

That nightmare, coupled with the horror in Nice France (and the election) should stimulate steady sales of handguns and carbines.

If Georgia qualifies as down south, open long gun carry is legal without a license, and with a carry license long gun carry is legal, loaded, and open or concealed on your person or in your car. In fact, you can legally carry a short barrel rifle open or concealed on your person or in your car without a license due to a legitimate "loophole" (they forgot about SBR when writing the carry laws), although I wouldn't do it without a carry license. In TX long gun carry is unregulated.

How about a loaded rifle in a car in TN for a TN resident with a current CCW?

The Camry's rear seat back is usually unlocked and angled forwards, allowing things in the trunk to protrude, almost within reach.
Making a stop enroute to the club's ranges, an 'item' could be concealed by a camo net.

The big demand last time was for AR's. Is there anybody at this point who wants wants one and doesn't have one? They've been selling for peanuts for almost a year now, the market is probably saturated.

Question is, what is driving the pistol sales? I don't think it's as much politics, we've seen this coming for a while, as civil turmoil here and overseas, plus worldwide terrorism. Maybe people are frightened and find it reassuring to possess a gun with all these events happening everywhere, like hugging a teddy bear and hoping for the best. I personally find it a false sense of security.
I'm considering one. Ditto other older gun newbies I know.

Yet for some reason, there's just no mood of panic amongst shooters. I don't get it. Normally gun owners react drastically when there's bad political news. But the general mood in person and on the internet seems to still be "Hey guys, check out my new suppressed SBR'd 40 watt plasma rifle!" rather than "What diameter of PVC pipe do I need for my long guns?" It seems like the demand is there, and everyone knows it's an election year, but no one is talking about it and no one seems overly worried either.

People have been buying guns at a frantic pace for 8 years. At some point people look in their safe and ask: "Do I really need another gun?".

Thanks for the suggestions. However, Saturday I started calling all the gun stores and pawn shops here in the Shoals area and hit paydirt!

I was able to buy a NIB PX4 subcompact from "The Pawn Shop" on Woordward Ave in Muscle Shoals for only 499 plus tax.

It had been in stock for about a year and it seems none of their customers were ever interested in it!? Despite the fact that all the jobbers were sold out of them. So they sold it to me for about what they paid for it.

Forgot to mention that they and all the stores I had visited were quite busy.

The large majority of the population that has been on the fence had most likely picked up a rifle or pistol in the last 8 years. That, in my opinion, is slowing down the panic.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a run on ammo though. If some new legislation comes down, or BO pushes some over-the-top 'executive action' that threatens to ban anything, we will likely see another run on guns.

I've said it many times before, but a lot more folks are interested in a gun nowadays than before, if for no other reason than to have a little bit of a sense of security.

I pretty much have everything I want gun wise

I wish I could agree with this. Sadly I just rewatched Clear and Present Danger and have a fierce itch to get an Olympic Arms OA-93 with the quickness.

Also wanted to get a Colt Python, but Rick Grimes has pretty much ruined that for me.

Since I don't really need any new guns I decided to do my part for the panic and buy 8lb of Red Dot and 10K small pistol primers.

I feel better now. :)

I'll bet every Massachusetts resident who wanted an AR but was waiting for prices to decrease further is now deeply regretting that complacency, in light of the sneak attack in that state today.

Attorney General Maura Healey (D-MA) announced her edict in the Boston Globe today. She says that as of today, if a firearm has either components that are interchangeable with AR-15s and AKs from the free states or an "operating system" that is essentially the same, it is banned.

Hedging against price increases or bans is not irrational, and waiting for the lowest possible price can have its downside as well.

im not in a gun buying panic. im in a ammo/reloading panic

in the last 30 days iv got

20 lbs of titegroup
30,000 small pistol primers
5,000 large pistol primers
2,000 rounds of 223 remmington umc
960 rounds of gp11 7.5 swiss
2500 rounds of 22lr

Crap, hope you're storing all that combustible responsibly. Oh, and kudos on the Swiss (wasn't aware anyone had GP11 at the moment, at least until you dropped by ;))
