Another mystery 1858 Remmy

Well, maybe not to much of a mystery. I have a older Lyman labeled 1858, probably from the early to mid-1970's. On the right hand side of the barrel it says "BLACK POWDER ONLY - MADE IN ITALY" and just in front of that are some proof marks. One is a hex-barrel shape with a ring inside that looks like rifling marks with a 'U' in the center.

Is that a stamp that was used by Uberti? Can I assume that this was built by Uberti and importer/sold in the use by Lyman?

I like the gun and want to return it to active shooting via a 45LC conversion cylinder. Thus, the question as to who made this gun.

Thanks for any help or suggestions. I can post of photo of the marks later tonight if required.

BTW, my dad carried a 351 in his patrol car back in the late 40's and early 50's and I have one in my safe, just need to get that new/used barrel installed!

Now I can start looking for a 45LC conversion cylinder for the gun.

That photo looks like the cylinder has quite a tilt to it. Very much narrower at the top. Does it shoot OK?

Yes, that is pretty close to the stamp I have on the barrel. Except mine does not have the sight / hat symbol on the top.

IMHO, that revolver needs some serious work; the cylinder is not tilted, the barrel to frame setup is wrong, allowing the barrel to come back too far at the top and point upward.

We might need to see the whole gun, ive seen many colts like this though and i always wondered how people shot them

Now that the barrel is pointed up and the classic nub of a front sight it might actually shoot at point of aim! lol
