I got my first CMP Garand in the mail (OK - FedEx) today, and I'm pretty excited. Best I can tell it's a Springfield (Danish) made in May of 1943, with a SA 1951 barrel on it, a cracked replacement stock, the early (milled) style trigger plate, and the late style rear sight. It had a TE of 2 and a "3++" Muzzle (rack grade). I just finished disassembling it and am pretty pleased. Anybody else see anything of interest?

Edumacate me...

As a new M1 owner I'm becoming interested in Garand history. I read a lot about Danish M1's. But what does that mean? Did the Danes actually make them? If so how could they have made one in 1943 since at that time they were occupied by Germany?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Nah - made here in 1943, then about 20,000 were sent to Denmark after the war. Since they were a loan, the Danish simply gave them back at a later date.

Good job, Matt.

Too bad I don't like the M1 much! :D I was very happy to get my G1 and 1917 back yesterday (along with a pretty little .45 Trapper).

I find I like the FN 49 much better than the M1, for some reason. I'm not sure why...
