Another One "Rescued"

Given the condition and costs to ship, probably about right at the gavel price or maybe a little over market after shipping/transfer, but not much. I had an eye on that auction but backed out when it went up given the condition. The grips are excellent, though, and desirable.

But if you try to have another cylinder fitted and the barrel turned back, then you will have done very badly. That is a very pricey conversion and inappropriate for a commemorative firearm, even in average condition like that one.

If you want a conversion pistol, you did good as you now have the revolver base.

Now all you need is a cylinder and a gunsmith who understands how to get the whole package together. You will also need to alter the cylinder stop.

At one time I wanted one of these but since have calmed down a bit. Every time you swap out the cylinder you will need to adjust your sights unless you are fortunate enough to find loads in two different cartridges that hit to the same point of aim. For me it was easier to get a second revolver. Once I dial in a load I could easily convert to fixed sights as long as they give me the sight picture I like.

Ed Harris wrote an article in Gun Digest about converting a 1917 to handle both cartridges. While not a detailed "how to" artricle, it gives enough info you might want to read it.

For me there it is a lot of work for only a little gain. The nice thing is that it is your revolver so it is your choice as to whether to pursue this or not. And if you choose to leave it alone, you have a great revolver. Capable of handling some wonderful loads.

If you do choose to go on with this, another option would be to find a cylinder for the M28, 29, 57 or even the Heavy Duty and have it reworked to accept the 45 ACP.

From what I have read of these revolvers they were built on 25-2 frames. I have seen instruction manuals on these guns that list them as 1955 Targets. I understood that Jinks wanted the 25-2 frame for them and they modified ACP cylinders to 45 Colt. I will not modify the gun frame in any way. If another cylinder fails to do the job the gun will be left alone. I love convertibles. I have looked at these Anniversay Guns for quite a while. This it the cheapest I have seen on the net by about $100. Maybe one day I will locate a box
