picked up a standard Ruger American today with the black stock and the 22" barrel, this one I chose to go with a caliber I knew nothing about and have never shot before , the 7mm-08 Remington., topped it with a Sig Sauer Buckmaster 3x9x50 scope and brought it home. 20231104_150424.jpg 20231104_152335.jpg
once I got the scope walked in I put 2 3 shot groups together that I figured were good enough for me shooting off of a blanket roll and a folding card table. 20231104_160639.jpg
2 touching on the left and the one I threw in the top right hand corner are Norma Whitetail 150 gr jsp the other 3 are Nosler 140gr ballistic tips, that low one I'm pretty sure was imparted by me.

The Ruger Americans are good rifles that often outshoot rifles costing 2X or 3X more money. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The 7-08 is simply a 308 necked down to 7mm (28 caliber). On paper it is a tiny bit better than 308, but in the real world they are pretty much the same. With the best loads the 7-08 has about 2" less drop and less than 50 ft lbs more energy at 500 yards. That's close enough to call a tie IMO. The only disadvantage is that 7-08 ammo is a little harder to find compared to 308. But once again I don't think you'll be disappointed. You can hunt any animal in North America with that rifle/cartridge combo. It is a little on the light side for big bear but will certainly kill one with the right bullet choice.

No such thing as a 3X9X50 scope. It's a 3-9X50 scope. If you understand optics nomenclature, then 3X9X50 makes no sense. You'll never see it listed that way on any optics catalog or website.

That is a little lower quality scope than I'd like. It may serve you well for a while, but I'd be looking to upgrade to a better scope when you can afford to.

But overall you did good. I could live with the rifle and cartridge.

Been looking at the same rifle/caliber for awhile, just ain't pulled the trigger yet and should be a simple matter to make brass from .308 range discards

Nice, That's the caliber I'd really like one in. Wound up with one in 308 instead and since stumbled upon a 6.5 needsmore. I'd still rather have 7-08 though.

Nice rifle.... I have found Ruger Americans to be more accurate then they should be... But nobody is complaining.
