This GP100. Not sure of' the year of manufacture but I didn't know it existed in this configuration. My LGS has it for $395. This isn't the pic of the actual gun. I believe the gun for sale has a half underlug.

OTH they have a used "new" Security Six 4" blue (at least that is how they are describing it) without the box. They know the person who traded it in who said he kept it in a sock in his drawer (or something like that). Asking price is $495.
Both guns show no holster wear and blue looks nearly perfect. Although the Six has rings in the chambers, more than I would expect to see from a factory test fire, the turn ring on the cylinder is very faint.
Neither gun is produced anymore (GP100 in this configuration) but is there still support for for the GP parts?
This would be an impulse buy, so which would you choose?

Security Six.

Both are good guns, and highly unlikely to break, but the S6 has a full grip frame whereas the GP just has a half-stub under all that rubber. Really cant go wrong either way.

Offer between $750 and $800 for both. If you don't end up liking them both, you can, uh, unload whichever one you don't fancy for pretty much what you put into it.

If you can only do one at this time, I'd simply lean to whether or not you like adjustable sights.

Question: Security Six $495.00 or GP100 $395.00?

Answer: Both $890.00

Reason: We are talking Ruger for goodness sake

Just kidding. I wouldn't trade my Security Six for two GP100s though.:)

I'd get the Security Six as given its likely date of manufacture would indicate it's well made.

GP100 with half-lug barrel.

There is tremendous demand for solid, basic fixed sight 38/357 Magnum revolvers due in large part to States like California and New York restrictions on magazine capacity. Since some manufacturers are no longer getting their semi-autos approved for sale and that limited capacity doesn't make a lot sense in large semi-auto's gun owners are instead going with revolvers.

I usually would say security six, BUT. That's not a common gp100 ,4" blued half lug with fixed sights and the compact grip? That's the one to go with, especially at that price!

The tide is turning. I kinda favor the GP if only for the look of it. The grip feels bigger than my sp101 and decently frills my hand.
there's lots of aftermarket grips aswell. And if ya want to dress it up for 30 bucks you should check some of these out.

FYI the compact gp100 grips use sp101 panels, but have a larger locator pin IIRC. So IF you did want a set from Chad @ chigs grips all you need to do is mention it's for the compact gp100 and he will hook you up. :)

I vote for the Security Six...because I own one and know how nice it is. If you can swing both...you should.

Well, here it is.

Ruger GP100 for $375 OTD.
The blue is about 99.9% perfect except for the turn ring and a scratch on the cylinder.
I took it to the range yesterday and shot about 4 cylinders of .357 158 gr hard cast under a full load of W296 and some PMC 158 gr jacketed. POA/POI is very good at 10 yards. The DA trigger is typical Ruger. I am accustomed to it and I like it. The action is smooth. What I noticed is ejection is difficult due to one chamber. I have to hit the ejection rod with my palm to eject the cases. 5 cases can be removed with my fingers but one case refuses to budge without hitting the ejector rod. So, what would be the simplest way to remedy this? 0000 Steel wool on a brass brush and a drill, maybe? Suggestions are welcome.
BTW that Security 6 may still end up in my safe.
