Well,

was browsing ebay last night looking for a factory take off stock for my 10/22 (I just sold the bull barrel and matching stock) and was attempting to restore it to factory original.

Well, I wandered upon an MG-42 kit for a 10/22. I have a carbine barrel on my 10/22 right now and asked the question of what barrel length was needed (looks to be a long barreled kit). got a reply this evening that it took a carbine 18" or the 20" barrel. I was like oh no, this will work with my gun :uhoh: I kept trying to talk myself out of buying and kept saying to myself I really don't need this. I even attempted to do some googling on it and hope to find that it was a POS, but all i found was thread after thread of folks saying how cool it was or how cool it would look.

well before i knew it I was htting the buy it now button and paying for it through paypal before I even could realize that I need this like a hole in the head.

well now I got a MG42 clone kit for my 10/22 on the way.

Here is what it looks like (pics from another identical kit on gunbroker):

will get pics of it on my 10/22 and a range report when I get a chance to hit the range (wife is due with our 2nd kid in the next few weeks so might be awhile before I get to the range). I am sure this is gonna turn a lot of heads when I pull it out of the case next time at the range.

I have a buddy that owns one of those Ural motorcycles. I have dared him multiple times to buy one of these and mount it on the sidecar. Guess its time to remind him about it.

Yeah, that is AWESOME. You got one cool 10/22 now! Too bad it's got that "flash suppressor" on the end or I'd buy one too :(

yeah we'll see how it works out. i have heard that the rear sight moves a lot when rapid firing, but i think i can tinker with it and stiffen the thing up a bit (i am thinking of loctite or a glue gun).

now i just need to get one of those trigger cranks that they sell at cabelas.

and ya, i had a bone stock 10/22, then dropped in all new internals and a bull barrel and stock and made it into a long range plinker, then I went out rabbit hunting with a buddy and only had the 10/22 and it felt like I was lugging around a boat anchor :cuss: after the end of the day (i have had to lug a m249 on patrol before and the 10/22 I would have swore that it felt heavier at the end of the day, but i guess dehydration and 12 hours in a blazing AZ sun will do that to ya). So I wanted to turn it back to stock, well now I guess I am as far away from stock as you can get. Oh well at least I have an old marlin mod60 to use on rabbits and other small critters now (man imagine the looks the game warden (buddy of mine) would give me when I pull out my mg42 -10/22 next time we go hunting).:p:D

If you still want a factory 10/22 stock, I'll send one to you for shipping costs.

ok, got the kit in the mail last week and had some time on sunday to put it together.

one major hiccup was that the kit I received was made for a 16" barrel 10/22 and mine was an 18", so I broke out the dremel and cut off wheel and chopped off the extra 2" inches of the barrel (barrel was just a spare take off from another build). after that everything went together fine. on the receiver portion you need to get a 1/2 longer buffer dowel and that is what holds the rear portion of the kit on the receiver. I stopped by the hardware store and they didn't have any dowels long enough so I went with a steel pin with a cotter key on the end for a positive retaining of both ends and no chance of the pin coming loose and sliding out under rapid fire.

only thing I need to do now is get the crank on once cabelas decides to ship my order  and need to either shim up the front sight to prevent it from moving left or right and am thinking of installing a spare rail on the top of the receiver for a red dot since the iron sights are really large and would be almost useless for actual aiming, but this thing isn't going to win any accuracy contests to begin with :p

also, the front portion had a hole for a sling swivel mount so i grabbed a spare mount and threw it on and grabbed one of my bipods and put it on.

will get pics up soon.

Well, I am certainly no 10.22 fan, but i do kinda likey that!!!
Some guys, can just think of anything for a 10.22, but for some reason, not a Mod 60!!! wonder why...
