I recently purchased a Meister grade .22 from them; even their premium rifles come with a composite bolt knob (IMO, they are a distraction from the overall beauty of these rifles - ugly as sin). Anyway, I very politely made my feelings known to Anschutz and I was sent a beautiful steel bolt knob at no charge. Easily installed and now very becoming - very good service (but again IMO, do away with the composite knobs - horrible stuff)!

A composite knob is less likely to mar surfaces it touches. It is also larger and easier to manipulate, at least with target rifles. It is not as cold in chilly weather, nor as hot from sun's rays. But at least now your bolt action looks more like everyone else's.

It’s refreshing that Anschutz would do that for you. That says a lot.

A few of my newer models have composite knobs. The knobs never bothered me. I just considered them to be a different feature rather than being unsightly. I really don’t have a preference between the two although, in my opinion, the larger composite knob does improve the ergonomics a bit.

So, aside from the bolt knob, are you pleased with your new rifle?

The steel bolt knob (D25) is the same diameter as the composite knob - rather large. The rifle itself is stunning both in accuracy and appearance. I am not certain that my rifle now looks like everyone else’s - this generation of knobs is composite.

Many years ago around 1978 or so I was at Camp Perry for the National Matches, Smallbore class. I had Redfield sights on my Anschutz 1413 and they wouldn't go up enough at 100 yards. I went back to the Anshutz booth which was being run by Deiter Anschutz. He looked at my rifle, put new Anschutz sights on it, adjusted them by feel and sight and told me I could get them shooting well in 5 rounds. It took me 3. I tried to pay him and he wouldn't have it. A memory I haven't thought of in years. And according to Google he turned 90 last year, God bless him. A great man.
