I am contemplating a build for an AR10 using an 80% lower. I have built several AR15s using manufacturer complete lowers and now I would like to do one with my own brand on it. What I am looking for is views from a hands on perspective. Who done it and what to expect. I may hit people up with PMs for advice while in the process.
Thanks in advance.

I built this AR15 using an 80% lower from gunpartsplus.com, a PSA LPK, and a Spike's upper.

I've since added a Burris Tac-30 scope and Magpul BUIS.

The build is documented here with pics. Note that I used a mini milling machine to machine the fire control pocket and drill the holes for the hammer and trigger pins, and the selector. Others have used a drill press or even a Dremel. I wouldn't tackle an 80% lower without at least a drill press with an X-Y cross slide vise.

By the time you buy the 80% lower, jig, and tools, you won't be saving any money vs. buying a complete lower. However, you do get the satisfaction of completing it yourself, and if your state has no registration requirement, it's off-paper. (ETA: Just noticed that you're in PA. No registration required. :) )
