I have thought up a couple, I dont know if they are around and I dont know, but they'd be fun to have in heavy barreled rifles.
1) .224-08 (.224 bullet in necked down .308 case)- for a flat shooting fun target and varmint round.
2).25-08 (.25 bullet in necked down .308 case)- for long range coyotes or small deer
3)6.8-08 (6.8mm/.277 bullet in necked down .308 case)- for a relatively flat shooting bullet for coyotes out to a good range.
4)250-Win mag (.25 bullet in necked down .300 WM case)- for a fast, flat shooting round. wait, is 7mm .25 caliber? if so, some of these aren't new.
5)6.5x45 (6.5 bullet in necked up .223/5.56 case)- for a better penetrator in the AR platform that still holds 30 in a mag, and has a better punch.

This is just for fun, lets try not to bring real rounds vs. real rounds into this, just state one or more you would make, that don't exist, (to your knowledge)
and why you would make them.

As far as Wildcats go...I am sure pretty much everything is covered.

6.5mm as used in cartridge naming is .264 so that is bigger than the .257 caliber.
7mm as used in cartridge naming is .284
and in between 6.5mm and 7mm is the .277 (which the actual bullet diameter is 7mm)

a friend wants to neck a 204 Ruger up to a 6.5mm....

Cannot decide on a name yet.. perhaps the "6.5 it'll get there" or the "6.5 on the way.":D

Will it do anything that another wont? nope!
Would it be neat nonetheless? YEP!!!

thats the whole point fun, goofy, neat, whatever term you want, I always thought the .22-250 was longer than .308, go figure, never really looked into that cartridge personally.
But out of all those I listed I'd want a rife in .250 win mag the most.

Only issue is what it would provide over the already existing and successful .264 win mag... (which is one hell of a barrel burner itself... ) if the heavier and larger .264 is already pushing the limits of speed and decreasing barrel life, what is to be gained with the 250 win mag? Not that it isnt worth trying.. hell, anything is worth trying.

Every one of the cartridges you listed already exists from the 22/243 middlestead to the 6.5tcu
25/08 goes by the name of .25souper.

257STW covers your 25 win mag... Unless you're talking about .256win mag?

In this day and age you literally cannot even conceve of a wildcat that hasn't been done a half dozen ways already.

PT1911--It aint gonna happen, I'm a 14 year old kid, I'll be lucky to get a Rem 700 varmint rifle in the 2011 year, let alone a custom rifle in a wildcat round.
Xmas is gonna be great though, Spotting scope, Nikon riflescope, scope caps, new BDU's for hunting, barrel deresonator, getting into reloading soon.
I'm a lucky kid I tell you what.
But the caliber would be fun if I was a long range shooter, ringing a steel plate at 1000 yards would be nice...
edit, thanks for that tidbit RW, googleing 25 super now.

.22-250 is a necked down .250-3000 Savage. It is nearly 3mm shorter than the .308 and has a case capacity 13 grains of water less.

CONFUSING!
so many calibers I have never heard of..
Hard to think they die off after a while..
Our precious 30-06, .308, .300 win mag.
all will be a thing of the past one day, and out rifles will be looked at by young people as old, or outdated, as they shoot their remington model 900000xtreme in .300WSSFM. (winchester super super fat magnum).
:neener:
but slightly true?

I wish my posts were as articulate as yours in when I was your age. Like, seriously.

He means it.

It's nice to meet young folks who can carry on an adult conversation. I taught HS history. I lasted 1 year. :(

I used to dream about something like a 7.62x39mm, necked down to 7mm. I figured one could get more bullet weight and momentum than 5.56x45mm, and more range than 7.62x39mm. This was a few years before 6.5x39mm and 6.8x43, so I guess others had similar thoughts.

John

That would be cool, a carbine bolt gun in 7x39mm. Wow, that would be fun.
I have been told I speak well, Until this year, the more recent part, I coulnt channel into writing very well, and I am a really good typist to the point I don't glance down at the keyboard for anything anymore. So this forum helps me stay on top of my puntuation and capitalization.
What made you quit teaching?
Once of my favorite teachers was in the air force during desert storm, He won't talk about it much though. Solid guy, He said most of what he did was stack sandbags, but carried an M16.
.PS..thanks for the other thing John :D

45-35 gov't Just shorten the 45-70 down to increase the capacity of the lever actions while using modern propellants to reach proper velocities

it must be the inner mall-ninja in me.....because i have been wanting to see a .50 BMG Magnum for the longest time......im thinking just extending the brass by 20%...

.....why shoot through one tank when you can easily shoot through two.......

He means it.
I will add I am impressed as well. There are so many, of all ages, who cannot express themselves well, both in person, as well as in print. Good to see some schools still teach English Composition. ;)

New fun caliber? Hard to think of one that hasn't been tried. Fun to fiddle with though. I drew one up years ago and it is still in the pages of my first reloading manual.

JD I've had a couple of conversations with you and I always thought you to be an older fellow. oh yea as for the 25 caliber in a magnum the most popular one is probably the .257 weatherby Roy weatherbys favorite round. you should realy ask mom and dad for PO Acklys books vol. 1 and 2 for christmas if you read his books you will be a truck load smarter about guns and how they work..... / difrent rounds and how and why they perform.

Someone here should start a Young Readers Library Fund. I'm in for $5. :D

Yeah, I mean it, sometimes I look at my older posts on various forums and sorta get disappointed with myself.

Ha.. I did the same thing a few months ago...:banghead:
