Anyone shot this stuff? What were your impressions? Where is the best place to buy it , price-wise, or other good .308 right now?
Thanks folks!!

I just bought 60 rounds of .308 Lith stuff to look over and testfire. It was '03-'04 production. I wanted to have a test batch before popping for more, because I was a little nervous about the quality, never having seen or shot the stuff before... Ive been shooting for over 20 years, have reloaded thousands of rounds, spent 8 years in the Army, and have hunted all the North American big game in Montana. I just bought a .308 Springfield Armory SOCOM 16" M1A and have been looking around for affordable ammo with good quality. My particular rifle headspaced at 1.631", so its on the tighter side of the headspace tolerancing, which is a good thing. Springfield Armory had a headspace measurement tagged to my trigger-guard from the factory. Nice. I've test shot Remington UMC, Federal (Red and White box), and also Lake City '06 out of this gun now. I must say I am impressed with the Lithuanian ammo I bought from "The Armory.com"! I shopped around and they seemed to have the best prices going in April.

I pulled a round apart so I could look at the bullet and powder. It uses a ball powder of some sort that looks alot like winchester 748 powder, there was 45 grains of powder. The bullet has a nice sharp point and a good boattail with a very clean backend (not like cheap Winchester bullets Ive used in .223), and weighed 147 grains. The boxer primer on the Lithuanian round crimped in and sealed against water. The crimp on the bullet is very uniformed and consistant. The cases are nice shiny reloadable brass that have been annealed on the necks, like the Lake City stuff. So my initial impression out of the box was very good. At the range I shot at 50 and 100 yards open sights. It was sunny, 86 degrees with a head wind of about 10-15 mph. I shot 5 round groups off a sand bag rest, using the SOCOM factory peep sight. I was able to shoot 1" 50yard, and 3" 100 yard groups. My Socom is not a sniper rifle and I found these groups to be quite acceptable in real life senario, and just as good or better than a standard AR-15 with open sights. In my opinion 4" groups from a standard battle rifle with open sights gets the job done. A combat rifle is designed to get alot of lead on the bad guy in a hurry. Under combat stress the difference between a 1" group at 100 yards and 4" groups is a silly argument.... Unless you are in a sniper role, which in that case you will be using a scope, long barrel, match trigger and ammo. The Lithuanian shot just as good as the standard ball Lake City ammo and better than the Federal Eagle and Remington UMC. My gun tossed the empties at least 8 feet and they all landed in a nice consistant area. No hangfires, feed or extraction problems! No cracked case necks, or flat primers signalling overpressures or brittle brass. I'm happy with the Lithuanian ammo and Im going to buy more to stockpile. I feel satisfied with my testing to 100 yards, and will update my post after I do the 300 yard tests in a couple weeks. Lithuanian is great stuff in my opinion and at the price outshoots the cheap domestic ammo... and shoots as good as the standard issue Lake City ball ammo. Every rifle is different but I hope that this review will give some other people a heads up on Lithuanian .308 ball ammo...

I think I'll vote that for the most informative first post ever. Welcome to THR!

Back to topic - I've got a case of Lithuanian that should be delivered Tuesday. If I find anything out about that X_m1tanker hasn't told you about already, which I doubt, I'll update and tell you how it is.
