I want to begin OWB and IWB carry of an SP101 or full size CZ 75B. I need an affordable heavy thick gun belt but on a fixed income the beauties I have found at around the $100 mark are to pricey. I don't want or need ornamentation or fancy buckles. Just a nice black functional belt to support the holster. Directions and advise please? Thanks so much. Don

I'm sure you probably want leather, but you didn't say so, so I'll list The Wilderness Instructor Belt. For holstered gun use, the 5-stitch or CSM are good options.

Both of these are above $50, but they are both very popular on the gun forums.

A&G Custom Leather http://agcustomgunleather.com/store/

Lobo Gun Leather may be closer to your price point. http://www.lobogunleather.com/16_b8_gun_belt

I have a 1.75" simply rugged and am going to order a 1.5" from them. The belt has been very good but the wider belt will not fit some if my pants so the 1.5".

The Propper 180 is essentially a Wilderness belt without the (goofy) climbing buckle. Goes around $15, and works great for CCW.

Plus it's reversible, like my wife's decisions. :)

Hey! Thank you all so very much. Several makes here I was not familiar with and I will check all of them out. Don

Go to Sears and in the men's cloathing department get a plain ole workbelt $20 or go to the tool department and get a leather tool belt.

My personal opinion is that the Hank's "Amish CCW Belt" is a bit too close to a Sears work belt and I wouldn't choose it to carry a gun all day if (since) I have other choices.

But it is still a lot better than anything you'll find at Sears or in the tool department.

It can be said that comfort and security in carrying a sidearm rely as much on a good belt as a good holster. With prices in the $35-$50 range for something that's decent, leave the men's shop belts on the shelf.

I would either go with a purpose made gun belt or one which you can examine yourself.

Many look good online but will not stand up against one made right from the start. Lesser belts won't hold things in place, will twist, and be uncomfortable over time. Sure, you could make do with it but I won't again.

The SuperBio belt at Bullhide Belts is close to the price your looking for. It is more than tough enough to support a gun and doesn't deform close to as much as leather does. I have one in the black version and one in the brown. I like both but like the black better since it's look is closest to leather. The brown has a more plastic look; not bad though and I like it. I would say one of these would outlast a leather belt by at least 2 or 3 times.

And rayban, I like your belts. I've bookmarked your web site and may do business with you in the future.

you might consider Old Faithful Holsters.
they sell a "Belt Kit" for around $50: http://oldfaithfulholsters.com/shop/gun-belt-kits/

I contacted them recently and they informed me that i could get 7 holes spaced 3/4 inches apart instead of the standard 5 spaced 1" apart. I plan on ordering one next month (pay check needs to come in...).

its not as pretty, but it looks to me to be of solid construction. I am looking for a work belt anyway.

Everyone here deserves a thank you from me for the help with links and ideas for locating a proper belt. Here's what I'm doing. I spent a lot of time calling and looking at retail stores for the belt I need. I have found that many retailers can't have in stock every possible belt they advertise. There's just too many I guess. I need a 1 3/4 inch wide belt for comfort because of my 6 foot 5 inch height and 284 pound body. Most belts seem to be carried in the 1 1/2 inch width. Also, since I'm a big guy, I need a bigger belt. Specifically, 48 1/2 inches from the fold of the buckle to the hole I use when you add 2 inches for an IWB holster. I could find all the belts I wanted in 38 to 44 inch length, but very few without a large premium price to allow me to wrap my fat.
I contacted one of our own here, Rayban, who is a for-real person, not a phone number tree and discussed what I was wanting. After talking about his craft a bit since I too work leather, designing and making my own holsters, he said he'd get back to me with a price. By evening I had the information.
I'm having him make me exactly what I want. Laminated black leather, double row red stitching and the length I must have. I'll put his check in the mail today. I encourage anyone here wanting a truly custom belt to PM him and allow him to help you. The belt I'm getting is not in the price range I wanted ($50) but is not far from it. I know exactly what goes into a custom piece of leather though folks, and his price is great for what I'm getting. Don

Congratulations. I'm sure you'll get a great product.

The reason most belts are 1.5" is they fit most pant belt loops and most holsters have a default loop width of 1.5".

I was going to warn you about the possibility of having trouble finding a holster to fit the 1.75" belt, but then you added...

I too work leather, designing and making my own holsters

I suspect you'll have your holster of choice covered.

Glad to hear that you got that sorted out. I bookmarked rayban's page a while back, so that I'd have it handy the next time I need some gunleather.

The Beltman belts are a bit more than your budget, but when you consider you'll be wearing it for years it breaks down to a few cents a day. Belts like the Amish look nice but they are a single piece of leather, and eventually they are going to stretch. A purpose made gun belt should be dual layer, which prevents this.

I have not found the stiffeners to be necessary when carrying something like a SIG229.

Thanks again all. The Wilderness belts only come in up to 44 inches and I'm 48 1/2 inches so that's not an option. Rayban's belts are indeed laminated two piece I see. Very pleased.Plan to post a review when I get it too. Don

I think you'll really like your belt from Rayban.

For clarity, The Wilderness Instructor belts are available in sizes up to 70".
