Hey fellas.. I just got my first "new" gun, so Im not sure if this is par for the course, or what? But here's my new Walther P22, and there's a "line" of something on the back area of the barrel.. Looks like rust maybe, but I couldnt get it off with a fingernail, hoopes 9, or a rag so Im bringin it here for you guys.. I wouldnt mind so much if it wasnt staring me in the face whenever the gun is in battery.. Can anyone tell what it is, if it's something I should just live with, or how I may be able to remove it? Thanks for you help.. (You see the sharpie holding the gun.. That's my next thought?)

Looks like brass tracks where somebody rubbed a brass cleaning rod tip on the rough surface.

Mite try leaving Hoppies #9 soak on it overnight.

Or some copper bore solvent.

I think RC may have nailed it. I'd use 0000 steelwool saturated with a good oil. I use Breakfree CLP. Don't dare go dry but with plenty of oil there will be no finish removal.

I am not positive, but I think that barrel is made with a wide flange, inserted into the frame from the rear and then copper brazed in place. What you are seeing is the braze line. You can't remove it, and don't worry about it.
