I just bought a new to me 1903 and 1917. Does anyone know of anywhere you can get the stripper clips for these things without paying through the nose?

The Swedish stripper clips are what I use for my A303. Really slick, and commonly used.

The Ebay, probably Numrich. Very available. Try Midway USA.

Bought about a hundred of them from I think cheaper than dirt. were made in india for thier 308's. Don't think I paid over twenty dollars for the lot

Note: There are two styles of 5 round stripper clip.

The true 1903 style has two nubbins on each side (total of four). These hold the stripper at the corrected depth so that the bolt will knock it clear on closing.

The other has only the one, centered, nubbin on either side (total of two). These actually fit the loading clip for BAR magazines. They will work in a 1903, but will seat far too deep for the bolt to knock loose.

Smart sellers will know this, and the price will be higher.

Mauser stripper clips will hold .30-06; not authentic, but they work. The end rounds rims stick out a tiny bit, but they hold in. I went and checked this with a Turkish Mauser steel clip and it works. Not sure about the knock-out feature, as I don't have an M1903 to test it with.

How do you get shotgun shells to stay in them?;)

Try Sarco and Numrich aka gunpartscorp. Both have the stripper clips. You can also find them on Ebay but those are sometimes mislabeled. CaptnMac gave you a good way to identify them and also google search for images of the true 1903 clips before buying from an auction sight. The US issued clips were for the 1903 and a 1917 specific clip was never developed (aka it would have held six instead of five rounds). http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/stripperclips.aspx https://www.gunpartscorp.com/category/strip-clips-mag-loaders/stripper-clips

Know that depending on whether your 1917 had tours through Canada and Denmark, the clip slots in the receiver might have been altered and these will have a sloppy fit with US issued clips. If available, the cartouches will tell that story on your 1917.

Will you be using these for shooting, or as a display type item?

For shooting, the Swedish clips work great. Plus, they're nickel plated so they don't rust easily, very slightly oversized and manufactured to higher tolerances than most clips.

For display purposes the USGI brass clips look great and would be more authentic looking.

Prices here look high to me, but I haven't bought any in a decade or two.

I've got a few sealed 40 count boxes of the 6.5 Swede strippers somewhere out in my reloading shack. Shoot me a PM if you're interested and maybe we could work out some sort of trade.

You should have no trouble finding plenty of stripper clips for your '03. First, check with dealers who specialize in high power target rifle DSC00224.JPG DSC00227.JPG accessories. They have new stainless steel clips that work slick and last about forever, with a flat spring inside that holds cartridges in place. The old brass clips are nice for display but don't last long. Attached are photos of one of the old brass clips, on left, and on right a few of newer stainless and loaded clip. Also one of my '03 target rifles ready for a quick load with new clip.

Nice to know that I'm not the only one to know this. I have seen a zillion videos on you tube and television where the guy will load a clip and then pull the clip out before closing the bolt. That isn't necessary, just close the bolt. The clip will fall free. Also sick of seeing a Ma deuce being loaded with a belt of ammo, the cover closed, and the charging handle only racked once before firing. This you will see in the movies all the time.

Well, there are a few ( 2 or 3) LMG that are "push forward" designs, rather than "pull back" where you can lay the first round in the tray, exactly where is has to go, and only charge the once.

Now, come to cases, I was taught the no cover flipping method on the M2. Jamb a round up to the feed pawl, cycle the charging handle three times (an empty link should drop out) and you are GTG.

Amen.. I was taught the same thing. You can't stuff a belt into a browning machine gen , rack the bolt once, and expect it to fire. Three times, a link falls free and you are ready to go. And never close the cover on an M-60 with the bolt in the forward position. Unless you want to break something. I was 45B20 in the army, Small Arms Repair. We were constantly having to replace damaged parts in the feed cover because people were forcing the cover closed on a bolt in the fired position. (Forward )

Go to ebay, put in "stripper clips Springfield". hundreds will come up in boxes of up to 40 new unused. They say they are for Swedish Mauser but work fine in Mod 70, 1903, 1903A3 etc. I bought two boxes of them. I think they are stainless. beautifully made, actually better than US Arsenal produced strippers.
