I found a set of dies for making 7.62x39 cases out of .308, and 30/06.

Does anyone have any info on these?

Has anyone ever used these dies?

How hard is it to make 7.62x39 out of 30/06 cases?

Any idea of what these would be worth? I got them with a bunch of reloading junk.

There is no instruction with them, I really dont even know if it is a complete set. Just says "7.62x39 case forming dies" on the box.

Overall I am just curious to know how hard or easy they are to use.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Is there any name as to the maker of the die set? Some sets are made to use an arbor press and some are made to use standard reloading presses. There are many makers of case forming dies RCBS, Redding, CH4D, Sinclair, and Hornaday are some of the popular brands. There may be others or they could be custom made. If they are from one of the bigger players then an instruction sheet should be available. We need a bit more info to help you.:) Good find BTW.

They are in a green RCBS case, so I am assuming that they are made by 'rcbs. I don't know if the dies have anything writing on them I will look tomorrow....I gotta go to work now:mad:

If I were to post a pic, would you be able to tell me if it is complete?

If they are made by rcbs, do you think that they would have instructions available?

Thanks

hmmmm??

I didn't know you could form a 30-06 size .473" case head down to a 7.62x39 size .447" case head.

I remember years ago before 7.62x39 ammo or brass was available, people case formed them from the 6.5 Caracano.
It has a .449" head size close enough to work.

Huntingtons does list them though:

#58206 - 7.62x39 from .30-06 and .308 Win - Group G - $609.98

Seems to me they would have to be used in an arbor press though.
You can't use a shell holder on the rim and swage the rim down .026" at the same time.
