Well, I was at another gun shop today so my fiance could get some powder and primer (he's recently gotten into reloading.) Anyway I was looking around at all these guns and found maybe two that were for left handed shooters. I never knew what a bother it could be to find left hand specific things until I got into guns because I'm right hand dominant. I write, eat, open doors, etc. with my right hand. But I can NOT shoot with my right hand. All I want is a nice rifle with a lefty thumbhole stock, preferrably a .22, that I don't have to buy on the Internet. Is that too much to ask?! :cuss:

Anyway, now that my ranting is done, do any other lefties feel the same? And is anyone else right hand dominant but shoot left? Thanks!

I'm a lefty and it's why I make many of my firearm choices. Some righthanded guns sorta-work lefthanded, some are ambidexterous, and the rest suck.

I shoot left handed.

I think one of the joys of shooting left is making a normal configuration weapon work for you. Personally I couldn't and wouldn't own a left handed AR. It makes so much sense to operate a right handed one left handed. So much so when I was showing my girlfriend how to shoot one right handed, I had difficulties getting it down. The only rifle I'd consider getting in left handed is a bolt action.

Aw fiirst blood.------- I'm right handed, blind in the right eye so I gotta shoot lefty. For the life of me I can't get used to a lefty bolt gun tho. Great site :)

I like left handed guns. I've only owned one, a Savage 110L 30-06 that I bought in Alaska in 1963. That rifle did a good job on moose, caribou, Dahl sheep and a few bears over the years. Otherwise all my guns have been right handed because that was what I could buy. Some RH bolt actions aren't bad when shot lefty. I had an old 1903 Springfield that I put thousands of rounds through over many years, that one was easy to reach over to operate the bolt because it had iron sights with no scope in the way. Hand guns haven't been much of a problem, just the odd hot shell ejected into my shirt on occasion.

I'm leftside dominant(and Right eye blind), but I've been more than capable with shooting almost all right handed rifles just fine. The only problems I can see is if I ever try and shoot a righthanded bullpup....One would imagine that would sting a bit.

I'm a lefty also but after 60+yrs shooting right handed weapons it doesn't make any difference. I do think anyone should be able to use either hand to shoot and not get stuck with one system. Most are designed for right handed shooters so learn to use them.

Yes.

Maybe it is fortunate that I've never really wanted, or acquired a handgun.
Don't most types only have safeties which are awkward for lefties to use?

I'm right handed, but left eye dominate, so longarms get fired from the wrong shoulder.

The only real change to a southpaw Stag AR15 is the upper. Its still a standard lower, with an ambi safety and a Norgon Ambi-Catch, both of which are available for standard ARs. The bolt catch is still in the same location. Someone makes a billet lower with an ambi bolt catch, but I cant think of who. Being a billet lower, its pretty pricey.

I do not own, nor have any interest in southpaw firearms. I've looked at a few, but they were just weird to me. I refuse to buy southpaw longarms or ambi parts for them. I'll adapt.

The only problems I can see is if I ever try and shoot a righthanded bullpup....One would imagine that would sting a bit.
It does... Yeah, I had a brainfart.

Left handed - left eye dominant. As a kid played with a toy bolt action rifle and learned to work the bolt with my right hand whilst holding the rifle with a grip around the wrist of the butt-stock - so never thought about needing a left handed bolt action. Colt SA seem to be made for lefties. The only gun I found that I had trouble operating in stock condition was the 1911. Back then virtually none came with an ambi safety. Ended up buying an ambi safety at a gun show and installed it myself. Today of course most come with an ambi safety. The only issue I had growing up a lefty was finding a baseball glove.

Why not shoot the 60 left handed? I've never fired one, just 240's and 249's. I remember getting my arm chewed up the first time I fired a 240 lefty. Then I learned where to put my hand. I don't recall having a problem with the SAW ever.

It's kind of semi-bullpup design. Look at an M60 and where the belt goes in. A lefty has his face where the brass come out, opposite the belt.

Hey, I am no lefty but my brother in law is. He shoots right handed guns from time to time but i do know, from looking for guns for him, that there are some right handed 22s that you mentioned being interested in. I am not 100% sure but i think Ruger does or did make a L.H. 10/22, you might do some searching online to confirm that or call Ruger directly (great and friendly customer service) and ask. If they do make them you can have your local gun shop order it for you (i know its technically and order and wait the same as on the internet but it is still giving money to your local dealer and not someone else).

Also you could check out bolt action, pump, or lever action 22s (or higher calibers) if you want. I know they would still eject the brass in front of your face but with a rifle that is not semi auto it is easier to expect it and adjust for it and i know that in larger calibers that most manufacturers make hunting guns for lefties (my brother in law owns a few including a Remington 700 i think. I am sure that there are also a lot of manufacturers that make left handed receivers but don't sell them as much as the standard receivers. Ask your local gun shop to have his distributor to check what manufacturers make Left hand Friendly rifles and see what they can find. The distributor could know of a lot more manufacturers than I do or possibly more than your local dealer knows about.

I'm a left handed left eye dominant shooter. That said, the only lefty guns I buy are bolt action rifles and, as I am a hunter, I prefer stocks that can be fired from either side so I don't buy thumb-hole stocks.

if you can use a non thumb-hole stock there are plenty of LH versions from Savage, CZ and Anshutz to name just a few. Here's my favorite from CZ http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/36_63_972/products_id/18236 (currently out of stock but they will get more)

If you MUST have a thumb-hole Here's a semi auto bulpup in LH http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/673/products_id/11818

or buy a 10/22 and put it in an aftermarket stock like this one http://www.stockysstocks.com/servlet/the-464/ruger-1022-thumbhole-laminate/Detail. I have installed one of these on a friend's rifle and it was quality kit.

Or this http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/Repla...ort=9&cat=147&show=12&page=1&brand=Ruger 1022

Both of these are drop in and install in just a few minutes.

As far as AR-15s, I own 2 and there is no need to buy a left handed version of this rifle. If you do you are stuck with non mil spec and proprietary bolts, bolt carriers upper receivers and barrels.

The A-2 receiver has evolved to include a shell deflector bump that makes this rifle easy to fire from either side. As far as controls are concerned there are add on ambi safeties but I find them unnecessary as the standard RH one can be operated with my left index finger. The same goes for the bolt release. That way if I ever have to operate someone else's AR it will work for me.

If you wish there are several manufacturers that offer ambi magazine releases that work just fine. My favorite is the Troy, it installs in 5 minutes if you do it slow. Very low profile and functions perfectly. http://www.operationparts.com/Troy_Industries_AR_15_Ambi_Magazine_Release_p/srel-amb-00bt-00.htm

My wife is left handed. Her current favorite is a Beretta Cheetah 84FS. It has an ambidextrous safety, and it was only a five minute job to reverse the magazine release.

I had lots of trouble with the Kahr mK40 and the DPMS LR308
Trigger finge activated the magazine release of the Kahr and the DPMS with no shell deflector hit me in the face with the spent shell. Both are guns I used to own

Also, shooting lefties is politically incorrect.

As a gun shop sales person, I have often wondered why more gun companies haven't made their guns ambi. I am at a point where I think every left handed person in the USA shoots. I do know, however, that left hand only guns don't sell real well because lefties figure they'll never be able to resell it if they need to.

I used to think that we don't buy a left handed gun we marry it. However sites like Gunbroker have changed my mind about that. Over the years I have had no problem selling a variety of LH rifles and an 870 for decent prices.

I`m a lefty from the get-go but have always shot right handed.
When I treat myself, I use one of my levers! All is good. :)
