Good morning all,

I bought a Steyr Solothurn marked barreled action online, it is a model 1929 (at least thats what they called it). I have hopes to drop this into a vz24 stock but this action is missing the bolt. My question is: does anyone know if a GEW98 or K98/vz24 length bolt will fit this action?

Are these large or small ring actions and most importantly what is the proper length bolt body for one of these Mausers? I am hoping that it is the standard 6.370" bolt body so that it can be easily had.

Any help is appreciated!

Did the seller happen to mention Columbia? They appear to have been the major contract buyer for this Mauser variant. Here's what Robert Ball has on it in his book on Military Mausers:

Unfortunately, I don't see this variant listed in Kuhnhausen's Mauser dimensional tables (pp. 214-5 of his Shop Manual), so you'll need to measure the distance between the action screws and the receiver ring diameter to get a general idea whether this is model is the standard or intermediate length.

If yours is the Columbian model, you'll want to source a bolt with a straight handle.

Bolts on Mausers are not directly interchangeable parts, even within the same factory and year. Assuming you can find a bolt that goes fully into battery in your action, you'll need to have headspace and firing pin protrusion checked and the safety may also require some fitting.

Thank you very much for that information! It is indeed listed as a model 1929 colombian mauser.

I bought that action and a polish k98 marked action that has been scrubbed for use during the Spanish Civil War. It will be a long road to restore the polish mauser as no parts exist at all and it is the small ring action.

I will follow your advice and try to source a straight bolt.

I've yet to actually see one of these, but I believe the small ring Polish Danzig-Radom Mauser is quite close to the Imperial German K98AZ from the WWI era, and also has some parts commonality with the Weimar K98a.

Numrich/GPC carries some small ring Mauser parts, and you may score a few more from Liberty Tree, Sarco, Apex, etc. from time-to-time.

Keep in mind once again the limited interchangeability of Mauser rifle parts (Germans went in for hand-fitting), and grab a copy of Kuhnhausen's book: https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1014292684

Good luck!

A book, as thick as a huge old dictionary was in Barnes & Noble Books about ten years ago.

It covered the truly Vast variations of Mauser rifles.

My "hat is off to you guys" (or any gals) who have a good understanding.
