I was stationed in San Diego for 16 years, from the mid 80's and left in 05 with one tour in Hawaii. Generally speaking there were a few mom and pop stores around in IB, Chula Vista, National City, El Cajon, etc. As a rule of thumb for me, I usually stocked up on general supplies at the Del Mar gun shows. There was a wonderful little gun shop in Imperial Beach for years. A great old guy ran it, and no matter his prices I tried my best to buy from him on a regular basis. Sadly he closed shop while I was stationed in Hawaii for 4 years. Good luck on your search for local places. I would hope there are still around in your area. My last two years out there I moved up to Temecula and stopped shooting till I moved back to TN. So no real help for you, sorry.
allen2259 - Welcome to THR! I no longer live in SoCal, but grew up in the San Bernardino/Riverside area and worked for Caltrans building I-15 down your way. Been in Texas for the last ten years.
I am not an "active" member here, but I enjoy the heck out of this site! You not find a more knowledgeable group of people regarding all aspects of the gun world. If you ever have a gun related problem or question, you can find someone on THR who can help you - usually within the first half-dozen posts.
In matters of pure taste, you will find that opinions here are like.....well, belly buttons. Everyone has one. But agree or disagree, it is all done in a mannerly fashion and with a sense of fun.
