Any new covid hobbies?

I discovered that there are discussion forums specific to firearms and gun rights on this internet thingy ... Who knew? Yeah, I've been spending way too much time on the gun boards.

On a serious note, I'm getting back into backyard archery and airgun plinking.

Plus, the new hobby of ticking the spousal unit off mightily whenever she sees the credit card statements; apparently, during this pandemic I've spent far too much time on the computer ... ordering firearms accessories from Midway, Brownells, TGS, etc., and cool tactical (yeah, I'm using that term, deal with it) stuff that catches my eye from Galls, GovX, Midway ...

It’s amazing how quick fun stuff adds up $$ especially these days

love shooting the crossbow in the backyard. Always a nice little break from things.

No new hobbies. I've been shooting a little more. I've been knocking out some more home projects and picking up new skills in the process. I've spent a lot more time with my kids playing outside, pushing them on the swings, etc.

Some of the long-overdue projects like refinishing stocks have proceeded quite a bit better. Just finished oil sanding the first layer of what will (have) to be many on a Stoeger walnut stock.

On the other hand, my skeet throwers have seen far more use than usual. At this rate I'll probably have to add one and upgrade the current ones by next summer.

I still have the same hobbies from before covid. Our gun club range is open but due to some medical problems for both the wife and I and windy weather I've been unable to shoot as much as usual. My latest project is a contender rifle fore end that is benchrest friendly. I got the first coat of finish on it late yesterday afternoon and the current norther blew in last night and the conditions are supposed to worsen well into next week which adds a much longer time for finishing than when the weather is nice and warm. I have a little reloading I'll do while waiting for polyurethane to dry. Next up is a new stock for my old MK II Savage FV. Poor ol' thing only has three now. It's probably a female gender rifle and needs a dress change now and then.

My one new hobby is, I call my one buddy every morning about the time he gets up and tell him his car warranty is about to expire, and ask if he would he like to update it. :p

He doesnt answer most times anymore, so I leave a voice mail. I think hes getting annoyed, but I am waiting for revenge to come, as it always does. Just no idea what its going to be this time yet. When it comes, Ill know, and then things will really take off. :D

trolling gun forums.
hunting for a new job and getting no response.

seriously though, I put in a garden. The brutal summers here kind of hamper things but I got some really nice tomatoes, bell peppers, and my Havasu pepper plant is going crazy right now. Also put in a fig tree but don't expect much from it until next year, its still pretty young.

You have been calling the wrong number! You have been calling MY number! At least somebody calls me almost every day to tell me my car warranty is about to expire.;)

I have been a casual archer for years but got serious during Covid, getting coaching and shooting in a league. It has definitely upped my game. I never will be as "serious" about it as I am firearms, but it has moved into the number two spot in front of a bunch of other hobbies. If nothing else, an arrow lasts a lot longer than a cartridge!

Spending money on Gun Broker and other sites... I think I’ve purchased more handguns, components (except primers :() and shooting accessories since March than I have in any single year I can recall .

Stay safe.

I started Minecraft with the kids, they lost interest pretty quick, I however have a kick ass base and chests full of suplies.
I still go shooting every week, but now I've got two PoGo accounts worked up to L35 or higher so that I can do five-star gym raids with the kids.

I'm with you. My 5-year-old son and I have fished more this year than I have in the past 10. He loves fishing, has gotten pretty good at catching bass up on our hunting property. He's taken pretty well to shooting the .22 (Win 67) also, can land all shots on a 8" plate at 25 yards. I've never been too good a fishing, but once he started catching on I've really started enjoying it. Keep fishing on, and good luck to you both!

Model 63's a fun little gun to carry.
Keep up the fishing. Days spent fishing don’t count against you. Wife and I going offshore in AM to try to catch some grouper. Stay safe, my friend.

If that gets old, tell him you’re with the democratic party, and want to survey him........that’ll probably get you an FU or better.

Have a number of project motorcycles (2 and 4 stroke, 40-50 years old) that I have been "meaning to get around to".

Well, I have been getting around to working on one or another, just a bit at a time. Have sold one or two or three and may sell a few more, to concentrate on just one or two or three.

Same with some project lawn mowers (also 2 and 4-stroke, and some just as old). Will probably sell one or two of those as well, and figure out/concentrate on the "keepers".

I have long considered selling some guns so my wife doesn't have to deal with them when I'm gone.
In the last month, I have been trying to figure out how to sell on GunBroker--figured out how to buy there a long time ago. LOL

Never realized it would be such a ballache. Started the 3rd of Oct, here we are three weeks later, still unable to post...

Just one thing after another.
No "Chat", no phone help, just send an email and wait 2-5 days for a reply that is not terribly helpful, and repeat ad nausem.

i bought a dart board back in april. i have never played darts before and got into it when a good shooting friend wanted to get better and needed a "dummy". i wore it out and bought another one a couple months ago. since i haven't been shooting since may, i tell myself that throwing the dart helps keep my handgun shooting rhythm from deteriorating.

aim small hit small,

Not only I have time to refinish stocks but also take pictures of the process.

The starting point, a dinged, chipped and yellowed lacquer finish, on plain grade walnut, courtesy of Stoeger's Vursan factory in Turkey:

Amazingly enough, Nitromors didn't work at all so out came a heat gun, scraping tools and brass brushes:

After a few hours everything that could be removed mechanically had come off:

The stock was saturated with gun oil. Soaking it in warm acetone didn't do much so it was time to bring out the big guns. Dishwasher on pot and pan cycle:

After a couple of dry and wet sanding cycles and the first application of thin Tru Oil & white spirit mix it started to look decent again:

Fourth coat of Tru Oil on, sanded and buffed after each application:

And here we are now, assembled and ready to go:

It'll take at least a few more days before the oil has cured properly and can be buffed down to satin finish with #0000 steel wool. High gloss is nice but I still prefer subtle matte satin on what is a spare hunting/clays/guest/loaner shotgun.

This stock was a bit of an experiment and I wouldn't have shed a tear had I ruined it. Here's what I'll be tackling next, a lacquer Benelli fancy/semi-fancy walnut stock I've been banging around in the woods for the last 15 years.

Wish me luck. This is one of the stocks I don't want to *HONK* up. :)
