thats a mystery to you? take your time, im sure you can figure it out. if not, ask help from your parents maybe?
What absolute arrogance, coming from the one asking the questions.

As noted field loads tend to pattern much worse than purpose built SD/HD commercial loadings, and don't really do anything for you. As was just mentioned #1 buck in a 2 3/4" shell is a great compromise if you want more pellets, and still want 12"-18" of penetration. I wouldn't go for anything with less penetration for SD/HD. If you want to extend range (usually the arguement for 3" or larger shells) I'd recommend one of the modern loadings utilizing technologically advanced wadding like Federal Flite Control as it can (choke and barrel depending), keep your patterns very tight out to a significant distance (we've had a sub 4" pattern at 25 yds out of a 14" short barrel shotgun. If you need true extended distance, basically needing to move into rifle distances, slugs can provide that while having much less of an over penetration problem then people assume.

There are always compromises and this is mine. YMMV.

No question that #4 buck won’t penetrate as deeply as other buckshot loads, but sometimes looking for the higher percentage of kills on the first shot is not always the best option. I believe putting more pellets out there raises the odds of a hit and that can be an advantage.

In real world martial arts where the rubber meets the road you are not looking to score competition points, but are trying to diminish the assailant's ability to bring on a lethal attack so that your lethal blow can be delivered easier and with greater personal safety.

So you take out the assailant’s defenses, a leg, an arm, and you find a position where you can strike where the odds are in your favor. For me it’s the same with using #4 Buck. A serious wound diminishes the assailant’s effectiveness and I can put myself in a position where I can deliver a lethal blow with #4 buck.

It’s yours or your significant others lives that are at stake and how you handle or rationalize it is your affair. The good thing about this thread is that it makes you aware of other options.
