I like to down load my 30-06
my old favorite loads was IMR 3031 44.5 but these old bones are having problems with recoil
My next new load that shoots excellent is IMR 4350 50.0 grains
both loads I use the hornady or Remington 165 SP bullet C.O.A.L. 3.300 about 20 thou off the lands.
I wonder if any one can tell me what my FPS would be about.
I taken a few deer with the new load IMR4350 and they never took a step also I find one hole no exit wound and the lungs are like jelly.

That is well below a typical starting load for as slow a powder as 4350. Velocity is probably rather erratic but might average 2400 fps, maybe even less.

Hodgdon has some youth/reduced loads.

125 Nosler Ballistic Tip Hodgdon H-4895 2,615 fps
130 Hornady SSP Hodgdon H-4895 2,544 fps
135 Sierra SP Hodgdon H-4895 2,495 fps

You would be better served by going back to the IMR-3031 you were using and reduce it.

IMR-3031 being a much faster powder then 4350, will burn more consistently with a reduced load.

Lyman shows a 165 bullet and 44.0 grain starting load as giving 2,495 FPS.
That would be in the neighborhood of what your 50.0 grain load of IMR-4350 is giving you, but it should burn better and give your a better load.

3031 will respond much better and more safely to reducing below the starting load then 4350.

I just got a older reloading book to see if it had some info: the Hornady vol:2
IMR 4350, 49.0 FPS 2500
IMR 4350, 50.7 FPS 2600
I would say in the middle with 50.0 grains.
I know the gun will print some outstanding groups from the bench,The only change I did was to swith to 165 grain SP remington Core-lock and still use the hornady load table.
I have a picture of what it will print at the 100 yd target from the bench
I was concern if the charge was too light it been a few years since I shot the 30-06

QuickLOAD estimates that your load with the Hornady 165gr SP bullet produces about 2470 fps out of a 22" barrel (and about 2530 fps from a 24" barrel).

Pressure is estimated at a little more than 37,000 psi, and (surprisingly) more than 91% of the powder is burned before the bullet exits the barrel.

The Hornady 6th Edition manual shows a start load of 48.1gr of IMR 4350 (COL of 3.230") with this bullet, so you should be fine with this reduced load. And if it's producing quick kills for you with reduced recoil, what's not to like?
