Thinking about buying an air rifle this time, and I have my eyes on the Winchester 1000 air rifle made by Daisy. It seems well built (still with some cheap plastic parts) enoughly powered (1000 fps) and well balanced, and reasonably priced. But I heard horrible things about its trigger, way too heavy and stiff. Since I cannot test dry fire this springer like I did to a real gun, could you guys have any experience with this air rifle tell me your opinions about this air rifle? Is there a way to improve the trigger?

There are basically two versions of it, one is with the Walnut Stock, another with the black synthetic stock, I really like the walnut versions, but are there any differences between these two versions?

Thanks,

A friend and I both bought 1000fps rifles for pigeon control. He bought a Winchester 1000X, and and bought a Beeman R-9. His walnut was nicer than my beech, but that's the only edge his had. I actually had to use two fingers to pull the trigger! It was that heavy. It still smokes like a chimney to this day, and the accuracy is nothing to get excited about. If it ever quits dieseling it may settle down. He did drop some birds with it, but it now gathers dust as he's moved on to more enjoyable guns.
I honestly recommend a Benjamin pneumatic if your price range is around $100. If you want a springer, at least get one of the better Chinese like the B-18/19, or even better a Beeman, BSA or RWS. They will be more fun to shoot, and cost less in the long run.

In about the same price range, look for a Gamo Hunter 220. (I got mine from Natchez.)

Nice, solid, STEEL trigger parts, very accurate, very nicely finished.

Only problem is my kid thinks it belongs to him, just because we got it on HIS birthday

I know, the biggest problem is the trigger! it is ridiculously heavy from what I heard. Someone said that you just cannot squeeze it off.

Is there any method to improve the trigger on this springer? The Walnut wood is so goooood on such an air rifle, and people said the power is great (actually ~1000 fps, no exageration here). the main complain is the trigger, trigger related accuracy problem, trigger related pain! :D

It's not made by Daisy. It's an import. Can't remember from whence--I want to say Turkey.

I've never messed with one, but my understanding is that the trigger is what it is. Short of fabricating new parts you're stuck with it.
