I prefer to do most of my hunting by bow. Any other enthusiasts out there?

That's what I got my deer with this year. I don't use tree stands, I stalk them. It's not easy, but when you do get one it's very satisfying. It's possible to sneak up on deer, I've found sneaking up on a bunch of them is impossible - too many eyes and ears.

Yep. hunted rabbits and squirrels as a kid with a 35# recurve (many years ago).
Hunt deer and sometimes elk with a Mathews SoloCam untill the freezer is near full then I switch to my homemade 50# longbow and cedar shafts, turkey feather fletching, and some old Zwickey black diamond broadheads. Now that's fun.
killed 4 last year. only 1 so far this season. Drilled a coyote 2 nights ago. 25 yd shot with the compound bow.

English Longbow, 72# with wooden shafts. May have to start shooting my old compound soon, as I am developing arthritis in my shooting hand.:(

I started hunting rabbits with a bow in the 50's. They would not let me hunt with a gun by myself, but a bow was allowed. I did not get a rabbit until my second year. Then I was hooked. Back then I had a couple of long bows. I know one was an old 30# Ben Pearson don't remember what the other one was.

I started bow hunting deer when I was in Texas in the early 70's. Use to practice hunting jackrabbits. Got my first recurve then, was a 45# Bear Grizzly fast limb. Hunted a lot of stuff with that old bow.

Kind of slowed down hunting about ten years ago. Lost access to most of the land I use to hunt when I moved back to Indiana. What I did have around here either the farmer died, retired, or sold off his land. Now just hunt once in a while.

Never owned a compound, shot a couple. Have been thinking of getting one to just shoot in the back yard once in a while just for the fun of it. I may get permission to hunt a small patch of land here next year. So may take up rabbit hunting with a bow again.

I do kind of keep up with the changes in bowhunting. Have to say it is a lot different now then when I use to hunt.

Only if you want it to be. I hunt bare-bow, no sights and only a plain 'ole plastic arrow rest. It takes more effort, and theres a higher 'failed' hunt rate, but the payoff is a massive sense of achievment when you do make a kill.

Glad to see theres a few other enthusiasts here.

I'm hoping to get out to scout a new area in a week or so. I've had a lay-off from hunting for a few years, and I need to pick up some new gear (new arrows, for one!) before I go.

I'm deffinately an enthusiast... But haven't had the time to really practice and hunt with my bow for a few years now. Hoping that'll change in the next couple of years and I can get back into talking with the elk. Nothing more thrilling as far as I'm concerned. Well, unless it's looking into the eyes of a mountain lion at twenty feet over the back of my hound. Hmm - I think I need to limber up the ol' bow for that event too!
