any single shot fans ?

There aren't that many adult sized single-shot .22 rifles made new today,,,
The Savage Mark I G is a fine shooting basic rifle that won't cost you too much money.
The Savage Mark I FTV is more of a dedicated target rifle that will cost you a wee bit more money

A friend bought one of the G's for his teenage daughter,,,
With an inexpensive 4x scope she is hitting a two inch circle at 100 yards almost every shot.

The Savage Rascal is a child sized gun,,,
So are the Keystone/Cricket rifles.

If you can go used then there are a world of possibilities for you,,,
By "a world" I mean there are too many to list here.

Haunt pawn shops and look for:

• Any old Winchester
• Any old Remington
  
• Any old Mossberg
• Any old Savage

If the rifle is in decent condition and has a good bore,,,
The gun will probably have more precision than you can utilize.

For instance I purchased a Western-Field 815 (Mossberg 320 sold by Montgomery Wards),,,
I paid $100 out the door for the gun then $35 for a proper scope mount and $50 for a Simmons 3x9 scope.

For less than $200 I have a rifle that will shoot 1.5" at 100 yards with CCI standard velocity ammo,,,
That is off of a bench with a cheap plastic rifle rest.

One single-shot 22 I swear by is the now discontinued Henry Acu-Bolt,,,
I own one of these and with CCI Standard ammo,,,
I'm holding 1.5 inches at 100 yards,,,
Off a bench of course.

Don't confuse the Mini-Bolt (bottom) with the Acu-Bolt,,,

The Acu-Bolt is an adult sized rifle,,,
The Mini-Bolt is child sized.

A few posts back Dave DeLaurant mentioned the Mini-Bolt with an adult sized stock,,,
And the picture he showed looks exactly like a Mini-Bolt in an adult sized stock,,,
But Henry never marketed that combination as far as I know,,,
I think someone put a Mini-Bolt in an Acu-Bolt stock.

In fairness to Mr. DeLaurant I don't really "know" that wasn't a Henry option in the past,,,
And in actuality that's not a bad idea for a compact backpacking rifle,,,
My Mini-Bolt is just as precise a shooter as my full size Acu-Bolt

In short what I am saying is this,,,
Savage Mark I is the gun if you want to buy new,,,
If you can buy used there are many more good choices out there.

Aarond nailed it -- it was a stock Mini-Bolt, gunsmith altered (new dovetail under the barrel) to fit a factory Acu-Bolt stock that I bought directly from Henry. I sent a photo of it to Anthony Imperato at Henry, who replied that the combo looked cool; however, I gather the Acu-Bolt wasn't a hot seller, so a factory version was probably never in the cards.

Don’t forget the G2 Contender. It’s full sized and very accurate. No it isn’t nearly as cheap as a Crickett or a Rascal. I have one and wouldn’t trade it for a sack full of either of those.

Don't forget the Marlins...

My first firearm was a new Marlin Model 15 single-shot .22... not the Y model, but the he-man adult model they only made for 2 years or so. For that matter, there is nothing wrong with the 25's (magazine-fed Model 15...) and other bolt-action repeaters. I'm not a huge fan of .22 semis; I have a few, of course... everyone should.

I prefer them in handgun configuration, but either way, the break action TC Contender is a great firearm.

Well ratz!! Durn cell phone pictures.. I call this "the group" 530 grain paper patch bullets over a duplex load welded together at a 100 yards.. There was a pretty small hole in the paper target in front of the dirt bank where these were collected.
Fired from a Shiloh Sharps 45-70 some 30 years ago.

It is very accurate.

Love singleshots. I have a g2 contender pistol in .22lr and 223 (both barrels made by mgm HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) and a brass henry in 4570, and one in 44 mag.

I saw a couple of Remington rolling blocks in 22 on Hyatts used section a while back.The only single shot 22 I currently own is a Marlin 2000L i bought new back in the 80s sometime. A fine shooter she is too

I have a Miruko copy of the 1885 falling block in 22 rimfire that is a very good quality single shot rifle. There were 2 runs of these rifles, one in the late 90's to early 2000 and a second run about 3 or 4 years ago. The first run has the half octagonal and half round barrel, that is the one I have. The second run has an octagonal barrel but is much smaller in diameter and therefore lighter and is called the Hunter. Mine is a heavy rifle, around 8.5 lbs. I use it in metallic silhouette so I installed a tang sight and a globe front sight. Factory sights are a bead front and a buckhorn style sight. The first run rifles are hard to find but they do occasionally get listed on the gun auction sites. The selling prices run between $900 and $1,400. A lot of money for a .22 but it is a good quality rifle. The 1885 low wall is made in nearly every caliber under the sun if you want a centerfire. Here are some pics of mine.

I started out with a Stevens Favorite that my Great Aunt gave me when I was 8. Her husband had bought it new about 1917 or 18 for $7.00.. I used it until I got into high school and bought a Nylon 66. I still have the Stevens. I started my Son and Grandson off on that gun.

He traded it for a Remington 550-1(that i DO have).
