Any sword experts here?

I have some swords/daggers and one "sabre" that my grandfather says are all authentic...he is old so I don't believe him all the time...but sometimes he is spot on.

Ill post up pictures and info and hopefully can get some identification!


I think one is supposedly a civil war sabre...and then some old spanish ones and 2 nazi ones.

Post pictures of your civil war sword. Because there are so many replicas, and good replicas, it will require seeing each and every stamping on the sword. If there are inspector stamps include those.

Because fonts are different between originals and replicas the lettering will have to be readable.

My grandfather gave it to me, along with nazi rifles and pistols. Can't say no to history.

From what I got from that site, it's a Luftwaffe Dagger of some type.

As for the rest, just do your research, I find when i recieve curios/relics of various kinds, that the research and knowledge gained from the research about the item is the real gift.

This looks like a first model of the Luftwaffendolch. Luftwaffe = Air Force. It was first issued in 1935 and was replaced with the second model in 1940.

The belt attachment ("Gehänge") is probably not original, I have never seen a chain used for it, the usual thing was made from two embroidered stripes of fabric.

The Luftwaffendolch is not very rare, like most Nazi daggers, because it was carried by all kinds of ranks. It was NOT limited to officers. It is not a practical weapon, made for looks not for combat.

Maker is Paul Weyersberg / Solingen, a very famous knife factory that made thousands upon thousands of Nazi cuttlery pieces in the Third Reich.

The owner must have been a good shot because he got the "price of honor" ("Ehrenpreis") in a military shooting contest.

The dagger is in really good condition, in Germany it might fetch 200 to 300 Euros in an online auction.
