If you're not happy with the Lipsey's configuration on their site, hang on. :)

I also happened to handle a 3" 629-6 Talo edition. It was a fantastic gun with a very solid lockup. If I wanted a 3" 44 magnum that's what I'd buy.

But the GP was nicely proportioned with an appropriate 44 special length cylinder and frame. It was well balanced and sized just right for the shorter, milder cartridge. Just as it should be.

I would buy one sight unseen if they made a 44 magnum just like the smith and Wesson model 69 with a 4 or 5 inch barrel and adjustable sights.. That would make a really nice hunting/camping gun for bear country or as a backup deer gun. Honestly for me a gp100 is just a big honking gun that I can't see much use for other than range shooting. No way am I going to lug that around. If it could up the ante into 44 magnum power then it would become interesting. If smith can make the model 69 L frame 44 magnum I really don't see why a gp100 would not be up for it. For a self defense gun I would rather have a charter bulldog just due to size and weight.
The 3" is a scant 34oz. If you handload the .44Mag would offer little, except the super heavyweights. Which most don't use anyway.

I bought my Ruger Blackhawk .44 Special in honor of Elmer Keith. If you don't know who he was you need to find out about him and his relationship to the .44 Special. This should remove all doubt about buying one regardless of manufacturer.

I remember him wondering why in heck people would want to shoot varmints with those custom .50 BMG caliber rifles. His writing was great.

I have a 3" S&W 624 and really do not like the level of recoil with 44 Special loads. The gun is very accurate so I'll keep it and suffer with the recoil. The big N frame is not enough to soak up the recoil.

I'm not interested in a 3" GP100 in 44 Special.

I'm looking forward to a 4" plus GP100 in 44 Special. I have a Blackhawk in 44 Special that is great to shoot.

There is something special about shooting 44 Special ammunition in a revolver chambered for 44 Special.

Well folks, a 5 inch 44 Special is here. I stumbled on one at a local gunshop and it was beautiful. I thought it was a S&W because it didn't have the blocky, thick GP look. The bluing was beautiful, I'm guessing the weight was about 36 ounces, nicely balanced. I'm trying to remember, I thunk it was a five shot but don't quote me on it. I'm really tempted to get one of these as they really look and feel different from other Rugers.

I love the unfluted cylinder. If it was 44 magnum, I'd get one. Hopefully Ruger will make one.
