The Beretta Cheetah (84 or 85) is roughly similar -- and considered a fine weapon.

The original Beretta versions are pricey, but there may be knockoffs imported, or surplus ones availlable. They're likely to be very reliable.

thefish posted right before I hit "submit". You could do worse than a Bersa, too -- and it's a new guin with a warranty (and Bersas seldom seem to need repairs.)

I agree that the Beretta 84 is probably closest to what you're looking for. (It's also the finest .380 in existence.) But both the Beretta and Bersa are straight blowback designs instead of locked-breech like the Taurus. Unless I'm overlooking something obvious, I don't know of any other high-capacity locked-breech .380.

The Chiappa MC14 is similar, although a little bigger - made by Girsan.

It only says that it uses "short recoil" operation system, I'm guessing it uses Browning tilting barrel. But anyway, the main point is that it isn't straight blowback.

Well, there you go. Hadn't seen that one before.

There's actually quite a bit of the 84 in the MC 14's styling -- and quite a bit that isn't the 84.

Girsen makes some direct Beretta knock-offs. And then they have a bunch of 9mm pistols that look like a cross between a 92 and a Model 84, of varying sizes and weights. They have a slightly larger, 15 round capacity 380 called the MC25 but no one is importing it.

Here is their version of the Beretta 92FS (Not available in the U.S.)

I remember those from a few years ago. Didn't CDNN or someone get a bunch of those and sell them for ~$300 for a little while? I think it was called the Yavuz 16 or something similar.

Yep

The logo on their website says "Yavuz 16 Girsan" and the logo on the hand grips is "YG" which I assume stands for Yavuz-Girsan. but the actual corporation name is "GİRSAN MACHINE and LIGHT WEAPON IND.CO. "

At one time Girsan chambered the MC14 in .32 ACP, I don't know if that ever made it to our shores but that would have been a fun pistol to have.

My daughter got one of the new EAA Pavona 13 shot .380 sa/da pistols and really likes it. It seems to have all the accuracy Tanfoglio is known for. She's used it in a couple of training classes with no problems at all.
